Dune Is Getting a Comic Adaptation

Wow, I really can't tell what that picture is of without connecting the dots.

I've got to track this stuff down:

48 pages of foreboding, messianic FUN. One particularly sinister detail: the answer to a puzzle intended for a 4th or 5th grade level reader is “They tried to take the life of my son!”)

I'll give Marvel Comics' Bill Sienkiewicz credit - adapting all three-plus hours of David Lynch's 1984 film adaptation (yes, all deleted scenes included) into a mere 69 pages is no mean feat. Hopefully Boom will give Herbert/Anderson more room than that to tell the story (and they make the most of it).

I'm guessing "Dune" will be a regular six issue arc. Or it could be a graphic novel. This is an interesting move for them...I guess it also means they don't have anything planned novel wise after the publication of Sisterhood of Dune next month. It's kind of interesting they've not made an official announcement yet on the actual Dune website. I still really think it sucks that The Golden Path of Dune/Leto of Dune was cancelled in favour of another Butlerian Jihad time frame book.

I might have to check this out after I read the novel, which is sitting in my bookshelf waiting to be read.

They've already got Swordmasters and Mentat books planned. The UK covers of the novel already have it labeled as Schools of Dune Book I.

Definitely not as exciting as a Leto II book, but I'm so obsessed with Dune I don't care.

Why are they going back to that part of the Dune Universe? Maybe because that is the part they're most comfortable with. I guess I won't be reading those books. We got those books already in my opinion, saw the formation of the great schools. I personally don't have any interest in this part of the timeline.

I'll admit the Butlerian Jihad period isn't my favourite era of the Dune universe. If they insist on doing these in-between side stories, and the tale of of Leto II is too much for them, I don't see why they couldn't just have more stories between the end of the original Dune and the beginning of Children of Dune. Or even after the House trilogy and before the original Dune.

But meh, Jihad might not be my favourite era, but I'll still read any Dune books regardless.

Well we can forget about getting the "Dune Origins" Free Comic Book day book now. Boom Studios is changing their FCB offering from Dune to Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning's Hypernaturals.

I was amused by the fact that Rich was attempting to say Dune fans would be more excited that Pinky and the Brain were writing the comic. I guess he's not familiar with the portion of the fandom who dislike them lol.
