Dukat's Dominion Invatation

So, if Gul Dukat hadn't negociated w/the Dominion, when WOULD have the Dominion come the the Wormhole?

I think the Dominion would have been patient and waited a decade or two before launching the invasion. I would see them annexing the systems around the wormhole on their side to ensure that they had adequate facilities to support an invasion by securing DS9 as a beachhead.

The Founders were obviously rather patient and had long range plans in mind.

In the DVD extras one of the DS9 makers states that the Dominion knew of the Federation and were planning to deal with them sometime much later in the future, but that process was accelerated from the Dominion's original plan by the discovery of the wormhole by the Federation.

So I say if not the Cardies, then the Dominion would have instead successfully wooed another similarly-sizable AQ race, and once that alliance was secure, they would have started the ball rolling within roughly the same time frame as was done in the series.

Or maybe even the Romulans, who even during the war had many prominent proponents of the Dominion position.

However, like the discovery of the wormhole, the admission of Cardassia into the Dominion accelerated the descent into war.

To my mind, any Romulans sympathetic to the Dominion cause probably were so because they empathised with them retaliating against perceived Federation encroachment.

The Romulans admire power, and the Dominion certainly had it, but I can't really see the Romulans happily offering themselves up as anyone's lapdogs.

I think the Breen would always have been on the cards, whenever they made their move, but beyond that I'd have to say it would probably have been one of the lesser seen races, like the Tholians as mentioned above.
