DS9 vs TNG Popularity

I find it easy to get into a serialized show as long as I watch it from the start. But lately when you miss even one episode the thing collapses into a mess when you can't get reruns.

That doesn't work too well for me. I don't have torrents and stuff. And since I'm in Canada HULU doesn't work either.

See, the salient detail about torrents is that they're free for all to download. ;)

Not that I'd know about such things, of course, I'm a law abiding man, I have a substantial DVD collection and purchase mp3s legally. Sure, sometimes it may seem like I'm watching US television shows before they air over here, but that's only because of the.... reserve international date-line... in the Atlantic. It's a well guarded secret.

I also don't see ads on this website... but that's because I'm a premium member, of course. :)

The entire first post is biased in favour of DS9. I love the show - my favourite, in fact, if I discount season six and seven - but its not as "complicated" or "complex" as many would like to believe.
TNG could do individual stories that were just as complex as those on DS9, and just as powerful. I think where DS9 becomes more "complicated" or "complex" is that it did some of its in-depth storytelling over several episodes, and even seasons, instead of staying episodic.

Do what I do: Record the show, or if you can't (not even a VHS in your world?), set aside time for a rerun.

As far as downloads go (legal, illegal, semilegal or semidemiillegal), I have a HDTV, things look nice and crisp, and I wouldn't be interested in viewing things otherwise. I'm even willing... to wait... for Dexter season...four.

Though at this point I'm suffering from acute withdrawal.

I find the argument about DS9 being too serialised odd. I find DS9 not serialised much at all in comparison to true serialised shows like LOST or B5. At least with DS9 I can put in an episode and it has a start, middle and end. Sure the series changes and there's a few episodes where it does indeed help to know the overall arc. (like the multi-episode stories)

But if I take Apocalypse Rising for example... the whole episode can easily be seen as a "find the changling" story, where by the end it's all wrapped up. It serves its purpose in the arc AND as a single story. It's no more difficult than anything by TNG.
