DS9, The Greatest of All Treks

DS9 has been my favourite trek since its first run (though it took some time getting used to), and probably will remain so.

That said, IMHO it is not without its weaker points, one of which is that sometimes it became a bit too soap-ish for my tastes, with all those peeks into officers' personal love lives ( Dax/Worf, Bashir/Ezri, ugh).

Interesting that you mention the two relationships that featured the bi-gendered character (Dax). Does Dax's changing gender make you uncomfortable? And if so, when did you first start to feel this way?
(Sits with pen poised over steno notebook.)

^No, never took that into consideration. At least, not consciously:)

These were just the two relations shown I found most annoying. Dax/Worf because the pairing didn't seem convincing to me, (I mean I know Dax used to be Curzon in her earlier life, who was chummy with the Klingons, but I'd seen very little of that up until the point Worf came aboard) and Ezri/Bashir probably because I found Ezri a very irritating character with all her uncertainty and instability issues (even though it would be plausible given her background of being unready when she joined).

But I also couldn't care less about the Kira/Bareil/Odo love triangle (for want of a better word). Once Bareil was out of the way, I found Odo/Kira oddly watchable though, as I did Keiko/Miles. Then again, Ben/Cassidy didn't do anything for me, either.

I suppose I did like DS9 a great deal, but not for its 'soap opera' aspects
