DS9 post-series/mirror universe question

As i'm planning out my read through of the post-tv series/movies books beginning with DS9 Avatar, i notice in the awesome reading flow chart the mirror universe books go into the DS9 stuff. Are all those Mirror universe books required reading to go with the DS9 stuff?

No, the only MU books that tie heavily into the relaunch storyline are the ones under the DS9 header on the flowchart; the rest are good, but they aren't required at all. I think they didn't even come out until after "The Soul Key", if I remember right.

I've read all the DS9 relaunch and none of the mirror universe books and it still made sense. Usually the authors fill you in on what you need to know and if not there's always memory beta. That said I'm sure there are benefits to reading the mirror universe books.

Generally nothing in one series is ever "required reading" for a different series. The interconnections are just bonuses for those who want to experience the bigger picture, but people who wish to stick with just one series are perfectly able to do so. The goal of the interconnections is to broaden and enrich the experience, not to exclude readers who are unable to keep up with everything.

I just wasn't sure if the end of the DS9 arc (Warpath-Soul Key) continued directly into Rise Like Lions, or if Rise Like Lions was a completely separate story.

^It's related, but you can follow each part independently. Like, say, the TNG and DS9 parts of the Maquis arc. Watch them all and you get a bigger picture and see how they connect, but watch just one series and you still get an understandable story.

ahh, ok. Thanks Chris, that makes that much clearer.

The DS9 books are more important to the MU books than the MU books are to the DS9 books.

I remember that I've read Rise like Lion without knowing all the other MU stories except the DS9 MU novels and it worked quite well. You can forgo the MU stories as Christopher said, but David Mack's Rise like Lions is highly recommendable.
