What other conclusion are we suppose to come to about DS9 not being made when someone associated with the project actually says it is dependent on TNG sales?
Listened to it and it seems clear DS9 and VOY wont get an HD treatment for at least a couple of years, because the only real money makers are TOS and TNG for CBS, DS9 and VOY dont have the demand. ENT only got the HD treatment because it was cheap enough, so not very risky for CBS.
Interesting info from Nemecek: The film material of TNG was better archived, so it was easier to find the original material of the episodes. So finding the film for DS9 and VOY to scan seems to be even more complicated (and thus time and money consuming) than TNG (plus the need to recreate a lot of CGI from scratch).
I think, we can put a button on DS9 and VOY in HD any time soon. It seems we are talking about years before it is actually beeing considered (and just because the process has become quicker and cheaper than today).
Sad to say it might take years. I do think it will happen, just frustrated that it might take longer than "right now!". DS9 would look great in HD with the lighting and shadows.
I don't know about America, but here in the UK there was a time recently when TNG and DS9 were on 3 different Channels concurrently. Now they're on the one, but are still shown constantly multiple times a day. That same channel was also doing very well showing the HD reruns of TNG.
So yeah, theres at least one major market that would almost certainly buy up DS9 in HD. Back to back with TNG the difference in quality is downright jarring.
That quote's three months old and was posted in this thread way back. And he didn't say DS9 was dependent on TNG BD sales. Of course TNG sales are going to be a factor, but that's hardly the only factor. And we're still missing one crucial bit of information: is the studio happy with TNG's sales? Since the studio's been mum, we don't have any way of knowing. We shouldn't assume anything.
If the studio is happy...you'd know.
I'm so in love with Voyager and ENT that I recently tried rewatching them and wound up selling the DVDs. After DS9, I think TV ST really went through the floor. Strangely, though, Voyager figures very high in every Star Trek official site fan polls, much to my dismay. But if you mention Star Trek to most people, they either think of TOS, TNG and in some cases, even the Abrams reboots (ducks).
I watched Voyager all the way through and the idiotic last ep made me feel it was a waste of time except for The Doctor. Yet when the DVDs were cheap used, I ponied up and found that yes, it was a waste of time. Bad premise, Janeway made a dumb decision, "Lost In Space" Star Trek style. I can't even stand Mulgrew's voice anymore.
ENT: I literally booed and hissed at the Space Nazis at the end of season 3. I was done at that point but again ponied up for cheap used DVDs and found out I was right....it was a waste of time, IMHO. If you love those two shows, I'm happy for you. Really!
DS9: love to have it on DVD, but not at $90 a season. So far I've gotten all of TOS and their movies on Blu Ray and season 1 of TNG, all of which look amazing. But I have a certain price limit I will pay for TNG as I already have it on DVD (but in DVD it looks terrible on high def TV). I was able to get season 1 used on Amazon for $35. I've never seen any TNG seasons that cheap again, so I'm focusing on the modern day Dr. Who, which look great on DVD. We have all the Matt Smiths in Blu Ray and they look great!
Sorry to ramble, just my two cents. I agree though, to sum up, CBS is putting out in Blu Ray what it thinks it will sell.

The BBC haven't shown any Star Trek series in the UK for at least 10 years. BBC2 finished the final season of DS9, and never showed it again. I'm not even sure the BBC finished Voyager, but I gave up with it long before the end.
Watching repeats of DS9 on Syfy UK makes me want DS9 to be remastered - even season six episodes are looking a little dated.
Virgin 1 showed DS9 in 2007; in fact, it was one the main shows it advertised as being on it.
Perhaps not, but all live action Star Trek shows are currently showing on TV in the UK.

If its too risky for CBS, they should do a Kickstarter of some sorts. Pledge $50 for the first season and after the first season has come out and you can prove you bought it (receipt), CBS gives you the money back (if not, you financed the restauration). Pledge $5 or $10 you dont get the money back, but you get exclusive behind-the-scenes material of the making (first HD images, first redone SFX sequences, interviews).

Unless CBS remaster DS9 purely for posterity, basically out the goodness of its heart, I can't see it happening. With all the extra CGI work required from season 4 onwards, we'd probably only be looking at one season a year tops, and massively increased sale prices.

A few nights ago I watched the epic 3-part premiere episodes of DS9's second season: The Homecoming, The Circle, and The Siege. What a well-made group of episodes. Would make a strong stand-alone TV movie for blu-ray.
Anyway, here's the analysis of it that my son, who just started college, came up with. I thought he made a good point. This is just a small example of why this show should live on in HD:
"That trilogy of episodes actually has some possible parallels to the current conflict in Ukraine. Ukraine, like Bajor, spent most of its recent history occupied by a ruthless foreign power. When it escaped the control of that power, it's new "provisional" government allied itself with the US, just as Bajor allied itself with the Federation. In Ukraine, rebels attempted to overthrow the government in order to prevent what they feared would be a new occupation by the West, just as the Bajoran rebels feared Federation control. Ultimately, the Ukrainian rebels were (at first secretly) backed by the Russians and their original mission was hijacked, just as the Bajoran rebels' mission would have been by the Cardassians if the DS9 crew had not intervened. One of the great qualities of Star Trek, in my opinion, is the realism and craftmanship of its historical parallels; by seeking deeper into the nature of human geopolitical interactions, Star Trek writers were actually able to say something relevant about a conflict that would not occur for another twenty years."
