DS9 movie?

Hawkeye_90

Was there ever talk of making a movie for DS9? After the next generation they had a few films, but i haven't seen any movies for DS9, not even a made for tv movie, was there ever talk of making one or is there talk of making one in the future?

I don't think it was ever considered, as the franchise was more concerned with moving forward with different spin-offs, especially so since DS9 never got quite the same kind of promotion the UPN flagship shows did. Maybe... maybe, they might have considered it if the TNG movies had performed better, but it seems the franchise heads were quite content to leave DS9 as was. What You Leave... wrapped up the series nicely anyway.

When the DS9 sets were built, they were built to "movie quality" (with enough detail that they would look good when blown up for the big screen), if-and-when. I think I read this in one of the big behind-the-scenes books, I forget which one.

People here are constantly talking about a DS9 movie...or at least that they want/ed one. Given that it has been 10 years since the show ended there is probably no chance of a movie plus given Star Trek is going back to TOS to reenergise the brand DS9 will most likely only continue through novels and comics.

I would have loved seeing the station up on the big screen, even if it was only for the Enterprise to stop off and pick up Worf.

I agree that there is no chance of a DS9 movie, but I don't think the amount of time that has passed since the show ended is reason enough. After all, Star Trek got its first movie ten years after it ended! Then again, DS9 wasn't canceled too early and brought back as an animated series because fan enthusiasm over re-runs was so huge. :p

I never liked the station that much, but if they had a film set aboard the USS Defiant, and made it a submarine-like drama like The Hunt For Red October, that would be awesome.

The Wrath of Khan is my favorite Trek movie, in large part due to the two starship battle sequences, but my brother-in-law complains that the one in the nebula was cheesy (Khan thinks two-dimensionally!), and I tend to agree.

Wait. Hasn't all the models been sold at the big auction at Macy's or Tiffany's or Walmart or something?

Of course, it'd be no problem for to duplicate DS9 CGI, but still.....the models...the models.

Wished I could have bought the DS9 model. I watched the run up to the auction, and when they opened up the wood box and brought out the DS9 model and cued the soft S1-3 opening credit's music-it brought a tear to my eye.

In the beginning, I think there was an idea that there would be a movie, and the cast were open to it... may have had mention in their contracts.

But it went out the window when they totally destroyed the sets when the series filming was done.

I think the post fiction has done better than they probably would with a movie...

I think your brother-in-law makes a very good point. I just watched the movie again and I had the exact same reaction. I'd watched the movie several times before, but this was the first time I realized how faulty that sequence is. I made a post about it, but I put it in the wrong forum. :(

I think the main problem with a DS9 movie would be that it would be hard to get all the characters back together in a plausiblre way, especially Sisko.

Frankly, a DS9 Movie is an absolutely terrible idea. It would wreck the established canon in the novel series, which has brilliantly handled the post-DS9 storyarch. I don't want a "movie," I want more novels!!!

Agreed. The relaunch is something I think we should all be very appreciative of. It's an extremely well crafted series of books overseen by people who genuinely do see how special DS9 was and can continue to be.

Speaking of which, I need to get back on the wagon. Took a little reading break last year that has turned into a very long reading break.

^And you shall have them. In Aug/Sept. !!!!!!

Yep, DS9 goes Mirror Universe, War for the Prophets and Cardassian. And I couldn't be happier:bolian:.

(gotta say, I hope that Taran'atar doesn't buy it in Soul Key. That Jemie has really grown on me)

I appreciate the fact that DS9 is continued in novel form but if a movie came along and disregarded the novel's continuity I wouldn't be all that upset.

I just don't see how a movie could possibly do DS9 justice. What could you say in 100 minutes that could add anything meaningful to the story? For a start, you'd have to spend half the film bringing all the characters back together. It's easier to do a TNG film, as the Enterprise is roaming around the galaxy, getting involved in various adventures.

A miniseries would be the only way you could even think about approaching a Deep Space Nine continuation.

I distinctly remember Rick Berman or someone else interviewed in TV Guide saying that the series intention is seven seasons, and then movies.

If Voyager hadn't left a big swirly steamy one on the franchise, we may have had one.

You're right though, a lot of love would have to go into doing it right. Rebuilding those sets would be very costly. With the Dominion War over, it would have to be character driven. The set-up for non fans would eat up half the movie.

A miniseries in HD would be fitting if it were done with the same pacing as the show, and definitely not recycling the following movie premises: Time Travel, Captain X vs. Arch Nemesis, Giant Thing Heading Straight for Earth.

Maybe a series cross-over. A story involving The Enterprise E, The Titan, DS9, Voyager and even Enterprise. A nice meaty 3-hour story, about the Iconian Empire returning or something.
