DS9 in the UK

MoonTrek

Ensign
Star Trek (DS9) starts on Tuesday 2nd October at 3pm and again at 8pm on Virgin 1, with the pilot episode!

The new channel launches on 1st October on Virgin TV channel 122, Freeview channel 20 and Sky channel 153.

Excellent news! :)

It has been years since I last saw DS9, when BBC2 aired it at 6pm ages ago. I just hope they stick with it, because Five seemed to drop Voyager like a hot potato after only a few weeks, despite promoting it heavily.

Anyway, looking forward to getting into this great show again!

Wow. I haven't seen DS9 on TV in, what, five years?

This is great news, thanks for this. :)

A few hours to go yet. And you're damned right I will. There are times I get nostalgic for the 1990s, and hearing the DS9 theme blare as they cut to commerical... I have no idea why I'm nostalgic for the cut to commerical, but I am. :)

Watching now.

They just had a brief 'Star Trek' ad touting the premiere of DS9, both now at at eight later. Apparently they've also got Enterprise, as this ad consisted of the decon scene from 'Broken Bow', as the narrator saucily observed 'we're got over six hundred hours but this is our favourite few seconds.'

Heh. Whoever the demographic that's aimed at, it's not me. But then, I'm the hardcore nerd. They don't need to court me... and ah, there's an asteroid now, gracing my TV for the first time since 2002. Magical.

It confused me slightly why they were advertising DS9 with clips from Enterprise at first, until I heard the voiceover...

Still, I agree with you, its not going to entice me any more into watching the show! Even though I have it on DVD, its good to see it on the telly again.

Cool, less than an hour to go for the later evening showing, been ages since I've watched.

I've got my TOS tapes and TNG's been repeated often enough in recent memory, time for another stroll through DS9 :)

Didn't know Sky customers got this channel too though, thought it was a sort of two fingers up to Murdoch for not letting them have Sky on cable.

Yeah I can't remember the last time DS9 was on TV over here.
But I won't be watching though; got the DVDs :)

For those DS9-depraved fans above, you can pick up the DVDs quite cheap now with the repackaged versions, £15.98 per season on Amazon.co.uk right now

True, but it gave me enough time to frame a complaint about their ads and then note the approach of the asteroid, so I can't complain that much.

Still, it's really nice to hear the DS9 theme again when they cut to credits, it takes me back. :) Unfortunately, the credits are all so modern, bah...

Not bad for a show that ended almost a decade ago. I think. I'm not sure, at any rate.

For a minor digital channel, I would indeed say that those are good viewing figures. :)

And regarding the Star Trek ad that Virgin are running. It says they have over 600hrs of Star Trek. Do you think they have the rights to all Trek shows?
Obviously the have DS9 & Ent. However, BBC2 have just finished with TOS and are currantly airing TNG, and Five did have VOY.

PS- What is the show Virgin are advertising with William Shatner?

Damned if I know. Either Living or Bravo has Boston Legal, I forget which as the numbers are similar. It could be TJ Hooker or something of that kind.

Given that IIRC there's something like seven hundred hours, I'd assume that Virgin has DS9, ENT, and either TNG or VOY.
