DS9 BOOK NEWS

Congratulations.. if there has to be a delay, I can't think of a happier reason... well, okay, maybe because you're secretly been in movie negotiatons or something ;)

I was just wondering, given everything that's happened maybe you should rename the novel to UN2TY ?

On an unrelated topic, how are the GKN books coming, Keith? Is there anything more that you can share with us? Vague plot hints, the name of the new first officer, Leskit's return? :-) I have to say that if I were a 24th century Klingon, I'd be *very* hesistant to accept a job as first officer on that ship! It doesn't seem to be doing a lot for people's military careers! :-)

They are coming along. I can tell you that the new first officer is another familiar face from a DS9 Klingon episode, that the induction of Klag into the Order of the Bat'leth that was promised in Diplomatic Implausibility will occur in Book 1, and that the plot involves a first contact.

Right now, I'm plowing through my Lost Era book at a great rate. Have to go massacre some Klingons..... :D

And stil Marco hasn't told us the names of his offspring, human or text.

But still, congratulations to Marco (and Mrs. Palmieri) and Danelle (and Mr. Perry).

The future of the Relaunch is looking good.

I don't like the idea of waiting that long, but given the choice between having it done right or having it done now, I'll go for done right. Congrats and thanks for the updates. There's still some Star Trek worth getting excited about.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping that one of the books would deal with a first contact! I would imagine that the Klingons have a *very* different approach to that than the Federation and it'll be interesting to read your take on it. I don't remember anyone ever having really dealt with that subject before (Though my memory is like swiss-cheese, so maybe there are a half dozen places it's been referenced that had just gone down the memory hole. :-)). The way the TOS era Klingons were protrayed, I always just pictured them swooping down on planets, claiming them for the Empire, crushing all opposition, installing a Governer, and demanding tribute. The TNG-DS9 era Klingons, though... I'm not so sure. So, it should be fun to see what happens, as long as it doesn't fall too much into the "gruffer version of Starfleet protocol" category. I like seeing real cultural differences, even when (And sometimes especially when) they go completely against what we'd normally think of our "heroes" doing -- like the way Toq got promoted in DI. :-) The execution of this series has been a lot better than I had imagined an all-Klingon series being so far and I am looking forward to it's continuance -- hopefully for many years to come... And of course your Lost Era book as well. :-)

^ Keith likes to tease.....well, so do I.

Having had the chance to see what Keith has in mind for Book 1, I can safely assure you that his portrayal of Klingon first contact procedures is indeed different from that advocated by the Federation. :D

It was the tribbles who did it! Bet they're the real evil masterminds

Well, I guess the 'pleasure-pain' theory holds true here! :D

I can't say I'm not disappointed by Unity's delay, but there are more important things in life. So congratulations and best wishes to you Marco and your wife and little one. Also pass on our best wishes to S.D. Perry! :)

I must say though, that the line up for Prophecy and Change is excellent, and with Worlds of DS9, you are continuing to interest and innovate, Marco.

In fact, there are so may exciting Project's in the pipeline at Pocket that I;m loosing track!!!!!!!

Lost Era
Gorkon
Dominion War
World of DS9

to name but a few!!

The myth that there's a difference (beyond the obvious physical ones) between the 23rd- and 24th-century Klingons is just that -- a myth. Watch "Errand of Mercy" and "Day of the Dove" again if you don't believe me. Listen to Kor and Kang's dialogue.

As for your characterization of Klingon first contact, I'd say you've got the basics more or less nailed. :D

Wow. I for one can't think of any better reason to delay a book.

Hearty congratulations! :D

But what are the babies' names? Sorry, just a sticking point with me: when someone gets a new addition to the family, I want to know the names.

Aramis, let me be frank. No one here has either need or right to know the names of the new additions to Marco Palmieri's and S.D. Perry's families.

Marco did not have to tell us the reasons for Unity's delay. He could have said simply, "Life happens," and been absolutely correct in doing so. Instead, he gave us a reason for the delay. He has no obligation to say more.

Marco and S.D. Perry are entitled to their privacy. Show them the respect they deserve.

:o This is true, although I certainly meant * no one* disrespect. So, forget I asked.

BTW, congratulations on your SCE novella, Allyn! :)

^ Almost always. They'd take up too much space otherwise.

What ... I've actually read virtually all of my books again. I like the idea of these new books.

back on topic - Gives me more time to finish Mission Gamma Book 3. Also congrats to Mrs Marco and Danielle on your new borns.

Posted by Marco Palmieri:
it will publish in November, 2003

Well...Congatulations. I am happy for you. Really. :D

My only problem is that I have no other DS9 books to read. I read Lesser Evil in a day. Rising Son took me 2. I am just going to sit and sigh until, gulp, November.

I am honestly very happy for both families, and very envious of everyone who is behind in their reading.
