DS9 Beyond

dub

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Was anyone else thinking what I was thinking?

Top = from "Beyond" trailer
Middle = DS9 "relaunch" version
Bottom = original DS9 with shield bubble

I haven't read spoilers, so I'm sure it has nothing to do with DS9. But that was my first thought.

I also thought it looked similar. I wonder if ds9 inspired the design choices at all.

Haha...Thanks @Mage for the explanation. I figured if this was a true reboot, then anything is really possible, so who knows. Ah well, it got me excited for a moment. :)

[EDIT]...also, I was thinking Dominion when I saw some of the aliens and the title "Beyond." But I'm sure that's not the case either. With Section 31 in STID, I wasn't sure how many additional nods to the spin-offs we'd get in nuTrek films.

Hey, as a Niner I get how easy it is to get excited about anything even remotely related to that old spinning bicycle wheel. ;)

I was surprised I was first to post about it in this subforum. But I try not to read too many spoilers before films, so that's why I'm so ignorant. At least, that's why I'm so ignorant in this instance. ;)

I totally agree @Bry_Sinclair , I was just remembering that the "relaunch" version had the completed rings or pylons that met at the top and bottom (whatever the correct terminology is), and the brief clip in the Beyond trailer reminded me of that. And the visible shields reminded me of DS9's shield bubble from one of the early episodes. It overall seemed to echo the original design for DS9, so that was my reason for getting a little excited for absolutely no reason. :)

Maybe Sisko brings DS9 back in time in Star Trek Beyond, a la Sinclair in Babylon 5 ;-)

But really, that does have a similar look to it.

Saw this neat article tonight with the headline:
‘Star Trek Beyond’ Plot: Those Weren’t Jem’Hadar, But New Movie Takes Cues From ‘Deep Space Nine’
http://www.idigitaltimes.com/star-t...r-new-movie-takes-cues-deep-space-nine-536015

If Lin is primarily a TOS fan, he could very well be taking some cues from Cestus III, from "Arena". From what I've seen so far, the setup for Beyond has a very "Arena" feel to it. Though that may change when I see the film.
