I know the schedules are busy with tie-in releases for SNW, etc but still... nothing to mark the DS9 30th Anniversary... sucks.

DS9 is still being found by new fans.

This really makes me miss 2016 when half the schedule was TOS. I doubt something like that would be feasible at the best of times, but it'd still have been cool to get multiple books covering different aspects if the series.

Well at the very least the new runs of IDW comics are very Sisko and Worf heavy. And in particular the recent Star Trek #1 starts out exactly like a DS9 sequel series would naturally begin.

I think Eaglemoss/HeroCollector was doing one, like their recent VGR anniversary volume, but they went belly-up.

Eaglemoss was also publishing Nana Visitor’s book about female Trek characters.

With all the pandemic-related publishing issues, cutting down the already limited numbers of books published per year, it’s not surprising there’s no coordinated PUSH of something. We didn’t get anything special for TNG’s 30th, after all - there were a couple of TNG novels published that year, but there wasn’t any special celebratory story published.

If the industry weren’t still struggling due to shortages from the pandemic, maybe there’d be a special novel, something. But considering we’re leaving 2022 with only two novels published, and so far only know about two on the agenda for 2023... It’d be nice if a DS9 novel materialized, but right now, I probably wouldn’t count on it.

And its first-run ratings were through-the-roof, Seasons 3-7, in comparison to DS9, VGR and ENT. So its audience (and potential readership of tie-ins) is huge and comparable to TOS in 70s syndication. So TNG and TOS are more dependable for book sales.

Good points Therin but t's still too bad there's no Ds9 novel to celebrate it's 30th anniversary. The economy and paper shortages makes it take longer for books to be published.

I mean, very little of 2023's schedule is known, with nothing having been announced for after May.

It's a pity they can't/won't get the DS9 Companion out for a digital release for all those who became fans after it went out of print. That'd be a good way to acknowledge the anniversary without needing any new writing or paper supplies. Maybe the audiobook for A Stitch in TIme will come out in '23? I sure hope so.

As much as I would love to have an e-copy of the DS9 Companion, I don't think it sold that well when it was first published, so I would be shocked to hear about a new release. Even though the writing is done, it would still cost the publisher something to format the book for e-readers. It would be a little more involved than something like Revenant, as the coffee table book had photos and sidebars to account for.

I recall that, as the shops sold their first batch, they usually failed to restock it, supposedly because it was "too chunky" for the shelves. Years after, people were still complaining they couldn't find it - but it was still in stock at Amazon. As soon as Amazon sold its last copy at RRP, after-market sales started to jump like crazy.

I remember in college I found a bunch of DS9 companions at B&N on clearance for like $4, so I bought twenty copies and flipped them on Half.com for $15-20/ea. Ah, those were the good ol' days.

Yes, I recall the authors mentioning that at the time. The demand for the book seemed to be there.

If I became a billionaire tomorrow, after funding a lot of good causes like cancer research, helping the needy... I would fund the publication of a hardback version of the DS9 Companion. Full colour photographs. Oh and remaster DS9 as well.

Looks like IDW is doing an continuation with the comics. I haven't read them yet. But at least that's something.
