Dragon Age: Origins - Anyone playing?

I played the PC version of this game. OMG is it awful. I mean just terrible. The graphics on KOTOR 1 look better then this. The gameplay is very awkward with all of the right-clicking. And terrible slow-down time. But the load-times are what ruin it. It will literally take 5 minutes sometimes to load a single area.

Problems evident only on shitty computers...

Horsecrap. The guy at Destructiod had very similar complaints.

The graphics look just fine for me with everything set to high. I have no problems with the PC controls, it's similar to older Bioware games. The longest loading time for me is when I first load a save, sometimes that can take up to 30 seconds, though while playing the game my load times are usually 10 seconds between areas and quick saves are about 2 seconds.

Also the PC version lets you zoom to an overhead view which makes combat far easier, and you have about 20 quick slots for abilities/spells compared to just having the face buttons on the console versions.

The PC version is the superior version.

The game looks pretty decent, although it isn't by far the best looking game of the year. A few glitches do pop up again to truly let us know this is a BioWare game, the most common being characters that move their mouths but don't say anything. The real tragedy here is that the voice acting is pretty damn great, with characters like Shale and Alistair standing out as wonderful characters. The vocal talents of Tim Curry are criminally underutilized, however.

One other benefit to the PC version is that Bioware has already released the toolset to the game so you can edit the game as you like. I've already used it to re-spec my warrior from sword/shield to dual-wield because Alistair was already sword/shield. I also used it to get rid of all the points in archery that Lilliana starts with and move them elsewhere since I never use archers.

I haven't noticed any slowdown or long load times in the game so far, but then my computer is only a year old. Once I got used to the controls it wasn't so bad, although accidentally clicking past a trap instead of right on it always leads to disaster. But running around with WASD and using the number keys to activate attacks like Wow works pretty well.

So I finally got the game yesterday... I started the game as a Dalish Elf warrior. So far I've only played it for about an hour, but I'm definitely enjoying it.

I am 5:43 hours in and I just completed all the missions in the town where you get Sten ( I took a hit on rep with Alister because the mother wouldn't hand the keys over all nice like and I had to get rough).

Two things I dislike about the game. It is a mix of NeverWinter Knights and KotOR. Obvously it is a Bioware game so the interface will work the same, but its not something I like...

I'm currently running around with Claudia Black and Alister, although I have some monk women and Sten avilable. Can only have three people in my partyy right now though.

All in all its fine. Just need to get used to it.

Finally beat it. I really enjoyed it and ended up starting a new campaign right away.

I ended up sacrificing myself to let alistair be king. But then it seemed like he was unhappy as king so I felt bad and re-beat it letting him do it and become the glorious martyr... which left that turn-coat bitch as queen, which sucked. The only other option was doing the demon baby thing, and playing as a paragon meant that was a no. I guess I couldn't come to a conclusion that I liked.

I started a new one as elf rogue, who I was going to play as evil, but after killing the wounded soldier and killing the poor dog at the camp I don't think I can stomach it so I'm just going to be a greedy jerk for this playthrough. I'm also going to see how it'll be with only ranged people as my companions. I just wish the ranger pets actually stayed with you between zones.

I'm stuck in the deserted building without anymore health packs. How the heck do you survive this game :^). I need to build a team with a monk... What is a good early game team build anyway...

Yeah, the combat is tough for me as well. When I find myself very outnumbered (as in 4:1), I usually have to switch to my mage and control her manually. The tactics system isn't as detailed as I would like.

Herbalism helped me with the potion issue. There's a vendor on the elf camp that has unlimited elfroot, and your camp shop will have unlimited quantities of all the rest of the components. The mages tower has unlimited lyrium. I ended up spending most of my gold on potion components.

HUm... I can't find a relaible place to purchase potions. I just finsihed the Urn quest and I'm feeling exhausted. The mear fact I HATED Neverwinter Nights is giving me pause about this game. I wish it was a little less skill focused, but whatever, I'll manage.

I'll have to read up on good team combinations. Once I set up Morrgin as a healer/ranger things went better, but I'll find Mr. would be prince too shy and stays standing in one place too long.

So far the only thing that makes be go bonkers is this:

I am playing a dualist w/bow skills and I'll have my team hold posityion while I go and attempt to pull a mob over. Well I forget I'm in group target mode and everyone jumps to attack even though I am telling them not to move... very frustrating.

I'm playing as an Elvish Mage, currently doing the Dalish quest. I'm in a dungeon and I'm running low on health packs, and I don't have anymore flasks to create more! Tough game, but I'm enjoying it very much. Yay for Claudia Black and Kate Mulgrew appearing! :)

You havn't meet Tim Russ yet? You soon will, he is the Dalish Keeper who blah, blah, blah spoilers you probably may already know, but anyway....

I'm currently in dream land and its got to be the most annoying place "on earth". Not overly hard, but the walkthrough I read doesn't make me too happy to come to the end of it.

Still playing (and loving it) and am in Denerim at the moment.

I have noticed one or two issues though. I'm having a slight graphical issue ever since I did the ashes quest. (The player character is sort of glowy).

If I play too long, the area load times seem to significantly increase too. That's on an Dual Core 3Ghz processor with an Nvidia GTX9800 (1Gb on card), 3Gb other memory. Like I say though, that only seems to occur after I've been playing too long. I don't have any slowdown when actually in the game itself.

I agree. I have a purple aura around my guy and I can't explain where that came from.
