Tonight is the beginning of the end for Downton fan's.
The first ep is on ITV 9pm-10pm.
Will anybody here will be watching?
Some spoiler pictures have given me hope for my girl Edith I'll just have to resist the urge to switch off when Mary is on screen.:rommie:

My hopes for series 6 are that the Green story line is done away with in the first two minutes of the show.
And Edith takes her daughter and moves to London and finds some happiness.
 
I'll be watching, but it won't be airing here until January, so I'll have to avoid this thread until then.

I'm totally Pro-Edith, and want to see her gloriously happy and triumphant at the end. I want Mary to be shamed, isolated and defeated. She's really a petty, self-centered, unlikable character.

I also want to see Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes live happily ever after. :bolian:
 
So please that Edith is going to London But already pissed at Mary after seeing the promo for next weeks ep.
I care more than I should for a badly written show on ITV.

No access to it until January, unless I can find a site that allows Canadians to watch.

Not far wrong.

Good job getting rid of the irritating threads hanging on from two seasons ago, although the suggestion of more Bates misery to come is annoying - can anything else go melodramatically wrong for that couple?

It's good that the show is finally acknowledging properly the 'end of an era' feelings among the aristocracy, without so much "oh yes the estate is paying for everything, somehow" dismissiveness. Hopefully this being the last season they'll have the guts to follow through on this plotline instead of 'saving Downton' at the last second with a convenient inheritance or something.

Early signs are that it is better than last year; long may this continue.
 
Well after last week's ep I nearly gave up on the show.
But this week's made had my heart melting, So please Mary decided to stop planning Mr Carson and Mrs hughes wedding and I loved the scene's between Bertie and Edith.
 
This week's episode was quite nice and heart-warming, plus Tom's surprise appearance at the end.

But some things never change:

  • Mary's a brat until she's told off and is magically a great person before reverting the next episode.
  • Daisy remains the heart and soul of the show, followed by Anna and Mr. Bates (although we've seen little of them this season).
  • I could watch Violet and Isabella argue about the yellow pages for two hours and be more entertained instead of the rest of the show provides.
  • Thomas remains repugnant no matter how much the show tries to make him sympathetic (that ship sailed seasons ago!).
However, I'm actually looking forward to next week's episode because...

Rose Leslie is finally returning!

I ended up not watching a lot of series 5 properly, but because this is the end i thought I would give it one more go.
I nearly gave up after ep 2 but being team Edith ep 3 had me drawing back in.
 
Saw the first three finally.

- Mary's a bitch. I'd *love* to see her get her comeuppance. But no, she'll be rewarded with a rich man before season's end, is my guess.
- Will Edith find happiness at last? Perhaps.
- For the first time, I wanted to slap Daisy. Keep yo' mouth shut, girl!
- Carson and Hughes are sweet.
- More Anna misery. Will she ever find happiness?
- I'm trying to like Thomas but with his past behavior... Carson is sure being rough on him though.
- Violet's two servants. ROFL...what a pair.
- I wish Isabel would hook up with the thin aristocrat. She's such a dumbass.
 
I would love to know where the rest of Violets staff are?
She must have at least a cook and one maid to do the cleaning, because there was noway butlers and ladies maids scrubbed the floors.
 
Honestly, ever since Mr. Mosley moved to Downton, I haven't cared about Violet's staff. Big fat cake of meh.

I really enjoyed the last episode. They don't do episode titles for the show, but if they did, it would've been called "The Ghost of Sybil." Lovely tribute to the memory of Sybil and it showed us what affect she had on so many people. I had completely forgotten she helped Gwen get her job.

Speaking of which, it was great to see Gwen again even if it was a bit weird after seeing Rose Leslie for several seasons on Game of Thrones playing a completely different character. :lol:

Mr Mosley worked for Isobel and Matthew not Violet.;)

Yay for Edith and Bertie though I'm a bit worried now Mary KNOWS about Marigold.
But did Quentin Tarantino direct the dinner scene? I think I now know why Chamberlain did not have a apptite for war :lol:
 
Yeah, holy fuck. What a scene. They really didn't half-arse the finale of the ulcer sub-plot, did they? And in front of the future Prime Minister. That's an anecdote for the ages, surely.

The Guardian reviewer wasn't impressed with the episode but I actually liked it. Apart from the dinner scene, a lot was going on and we got some nice scenes for Edith but also for Daisy and Mr. Mason. The racing and the subsequent trip to the pub were nice, too.

I really do want a gif of the projectile vomiting, though.

Oops. Goes to show how much I care to remember the tangled web of a soap opera that is this show. :lol:

The point remains: I still don't give a shit about those two servants. Ugh.
