Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Did that door connect to the corridor set, or was it just a door? I know in MSG, it's labeled as a storage closet for spare parts.

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Finishing up the last few details before starting on the Dilithium Reactor Room...

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Putting on my Thermian hat, it seems to me the back end of that nacelle junction would be a good spot to put another console, or at least a monitor screen and an intercom (if only because it'd be tough to try to shout all the way back down the cavern at Scotty). Maybe some kind of valve to cut off the nacelles from the main 'pipe' or something?

Sorry, I must've missed this comment. This is a good idea...I'm gonna see about making it happen.

In TSFS it was a turbolift on the Excelsior. I like to think it was a lift to go down to the lower levels of engineering on the Enterprise :)

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

^It would definitely explain how people got to those lower engineering levels, since the ladder and one-man lifts stop on Deck 15.

AFAIK, there is nothing to indicate that the one-man lifts don't go down to all levels of engineering. In fact, there is a hole in the floor of deck 15 that indicates that the port-side lift goes down to deck 16, at the very least...

The ladder, on the other hand, only provides access between decks 14 and 15.

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Yeah, the lack of ladder access below the Main Engine Room never made a lot of sense to me.

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

They probably didn't want to have people sliding too far down the ladder like Kirk did at the end of TWOK and fall 5 decks down the hole missing their deck. Staggered ladders in different locations between decks would have made more sense but that would have meant more money out of the budget to add those to the sets. The script only required Kirk go quickly down a ladder to the main deck and that's all they built.

Yeah those holes in the floor for the port side are visible also in TMP. I don't think we're ever shown clearly what the starboard side looks like but it'd be safe to assume there is a hole there that goes down as well. There's plenty of room in the lower sections to accommodate the 1 man lifts on both sides going all the way to the bottom.

The turbolift to me is really more for moving equipment that you couldn't carry on the lift going up/down.

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Just thinking, it seems hard to climb that ladder in those bulky radiation suits.

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Ok. I've got the basic structure of the reactor room complete, and I soon I'll start filling in more of the details. The geometry was pretty difficult to figure out, being that there are no schematics available for this small set. I was able to figure out the dimensions of the side walls (the ones with the octogonal viewers attached) by studying my photon torpedo bay set, since these walls were pulled directly from the K'Tinga bridge set in TMP. Everything else is a best guess. I think I got it pretty close to the mark. Here's an overview before I head to work tonight. Keep in mind that the floor and ceiling are incomplete, and I have not yet had time to fill in the graphics.

And here's a view from outside the reactor room

Looks great so far. With all these assets you're building, how hard would it be to build the Amar bridge, and the ... um... computer room (?) from the captured BoP in ST4?

It wouldn't be difficult at all. It would just take time, especially since I'd have to dirty up all the the textures to give that Klingon feel to them.

One of these days I'll give it a shot.
