Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

I may disappear for a while guys. Got a temporary project I'm going to work on for a bit. But don't worry....it's Trek related, and I won't be gone from the Refit long... ;)

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Didn't stay gone long!

Anyway, here's my take on the nodule where the intermix shafts branch off towards the nacelles. I had to guess at a lot of this, as there are no reference images of this part of the intermix shaft.

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Outstanding work, Donny! And I see that you continued the compartment back beyond the junction. Looks great!

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Excellent! There's a lovely misting on the section where the FP would have been, I'm assuming that's deliberate?

In Mr Scott's Guide, the walkway eventually leads to the shuttlebay observation room, will that be the same here?

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Spectacular!!!

Putting on my Thermian hat, it seems to me the back end of that nacelle junction would be a good spot to put another console, or at least a monitor screen and an intercom (if only because it'd be tough to try to shout all the way back down the cavern at Scotty). Maybe some kind of valve to cut off the nacelles from the main 'pipe' or something?

Well that'd be damn awkward. "Yeah, I know you're in the middle of a delicate calibration and I'll let you finish, but I've really got to get to my shift in about five minutes or Spock'll have my hide."

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

There could be a corridor leading to the shuttlebay observation room on the other side of the perpendicular wall.

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Nice work Donny!

Looks like the misting is present looking forward into the engine room as well. Perhaps it's a setting in the rendering engine to simulate distance?

It looks to me that in the reference pic in 1595 it looks like the initial segment that branches off should be thinner than the furthest segment and the collar that separates the two should be thinner and wider?

The "misting" is a depth of field post-process, which I've actually tweaked to be less prominent.

I may have the end of the shaft lead to the shuttlebay observation room...we will see when I build the shuttlebay.

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

My focus is now on the two different computer consoles seen to surround the perimeter of the main engineering deck in TWOK. These were obviously added under Nick Meyer's direction with the intent of adding more blinking lights to all of the TMP sets.

These two different computer consoles were rented from Modern Props (one of them is still available on their website: https://www.modernprops.com/Details1b.asp?dept=195&category=490&item=2) and can be seen in TSFS and TVH as the backdrop for Kirk's Genesis tape videos. Luckily for me, they are seen in clearer detail in the movie The Last Starfighter, which I luckily saw for the first time last year. I noticed that the movie would be a valuable resource for this build:

So here is the first of the consoles I've completed:

You'll be able to see the blinking motion of the lights once I upload a video when Engineering is complete.

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

The other version of the boomerang console, the one you linked to above, was regularly seen on Knight Rider inside the FLAG semi (with a blonde wood finish instead of the white one it had in TWOK). If needed, I'd be happy to see if there were any instances where there's a good close view of the console.

If you want, but I found this hi-def video of the console on the Facebook page of Modern Props which should suffice...https://www.facebook.com/217794988245254/videos/vb.217794988245254/881787481845998/?type=2&theater

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

And here's the finished second console. I'm very glad I was able to get the details of these consoles correct, as I love their addition to the Engineering set. (I was, however, disappointed when I realized when I was younger that these were rented props and not unique props to Star Trek productions)

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Donny - AMAZING work!!!! Your superb work truly does the Big E Refit all the justice she deserves. :)

Also, IIRC, the engineering-cadet closest to the camera in the image above is Todd Bryant, the same actor who later on played Captain Klaa in TFF. :klingon:

You're right! I never knew that.

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Does one of those freestanding consoles block off that side door to engineering? Seems that way from the Todd PUC above

Re: Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Just looks like the door is out of frame to me (beyond the far left edge).

I think it was moved into frame to give more visual interest, unfortunately also blocking the door, just for that one shot. In other shots of the same area, the console is, in fact, NOT blocking the door...
