Donny's Refit Enterprise Interiors (Version 2.0)

Nice side topic! Now I'm feeling like adding the Stargazer bridge to my list...;)

I've been focusing on tying up loose ends with modeling the remaining structures before starting on the console control and display panels, namely the roll-out science consoles and the Reliant auxiliary consoles, the latter of which are particularly vulnerable to phaser fire

Incredible work Donny, I have been modelling the first even TOS bridge used in the pilot and it's odd how it reminds me of the of TMP bridge as there is a lot less pretty colours.

Ooh, considering Rekkert just did one (for the prototype Constellation, though), it'll be interesting to compare!

I'm more eager to see your TVH treatment of the sets however :)

Just curious, @Donny , when you do the graphics for the Reliant's damage control station, will you try to reproduce the graphics used in the film, or make something a bit more accurate?

You mean these attempts to cover up the fact that they were, in fact, Enterprise/Constitution-class graphics?

I plan on making actual Miranda-class graphics for this station. The filmmakers didn't have time to do it, but I do. ;)

Also plan on making Miranda-class graphics for the turbolift too. Judson Scott's arms were cleverly used in lieu of a Miranda-class graphic in this scene (also note that they flipped the Enterprise graphic upside-down to somehow throw us off )

Oh, and Oberth-class graphics for the Grissom too!

In one of my "Star Trek: The Next Generation - The Galaxy Chronicles" fan fictions - the first one I did, "The Sound of the Shiant," there's a Lantree variant Miranda-class vessel that has been repurposed to civilian use (and gets destroyed in the beginning) - I picture its bridge being a cross between the Reliant's and the Stargazer's. The aft part would have the auxiliary stations that were specifically made for the Reliant and the single turbolift exit, but the rest of it being like the Stargazer from TNG's "The Battle."

A couple takeaways from your collage there:

1. I always thought those little Red Alert flashers on the consoles were domes, not the multi-faceted jewel shapes we can see in the close-ups
2. "Neural Command Override"? I'd love to know what that's about.

We are both correct ;). There were 2 red jeweled hexagons on the helm side, and 2 red translucent domes on the navigator side. The hexagons also appear on the Artificial Gravity console in the bridge, and the transporter room console. The domes also appear on the Communications console.

2. "Neural Command Override"? I'd love to know what that's about.
From the Phase II Enterprise Flight Manual:
"NEURAL COMMAND OVERRIDE -For critical maneuvers, the helmsman attaches a nerve-impulse sensing mechanism to himself to speed his ability to override the computer manually."

This functionality was obviously some bit of Phase II tech that didn't make it into the movies, save for that panel which was only on the helm console in TMP. It was replaced by another panel in TWOK.

Beautiful work Donny!

I imagine Rekkon is a bootleg version of me, with a mustache added on the avatar. ;)

Uuuggh, I beg your pardon Rekkert, there's a rekkon in my star wars armada circles. R-double-k names...

Also Donny those detail grabs are a fantastic resource to have on hand. Thanks for sharing!

Oooh shiny!

I've gone ahead and programmed each of these buttons, switches, and sliders to be interactive. The "16309" switches, for instance, are 3 way toggle switches that change colors depending on which position the player sets it to, just like in TWOK. Going the extra mile here for no other reason than to satisfy my thirst for immersion.

I was amazed to see how sharp those "Hoth Generator" lights were when I saw a closeup of them. I mean, those edges look like they could cut someone if they accidentally brushed up against them.

I never even noticed that the "16309" switches changed color as Spock toggled them. Your eye for detail continues to astound.

Long ago I modeled those switches and even noticed the color changes, but for some reason, I chose completely different colors for them.

[EDIT] Nope, just realized that they change to green when "up" and to red when "down".[/EDIT]

I have no idea what I was thinking.

@Donny, do you have a closer reference for the rocker switches? I thought on most of those the ribbing went perpendicular to the switch rather than parallel (IRL. Not sure about the Refit bridge).

Star Trek Costume & Prop Authority has some great closeups of one of the panels with the "Hoth Generator" (the article says this particular panel was part of the science console, but it was not. It was in fact part of a console in the medical examination room. I'd point it out the the admin of that site, but I don't wanna be one of "those guys";))
=
I forget what those were actually made of. I want to say I knew at one point. Also, a similar object appears in TOS as well, albeit red (it's hiding underneath the circuit board with the giant fuses):

Ya know, I adjusted the colors of all those glowies I modeled over the weekend to be less saturated and bright. A few hours after I posted that shot I realized they were far too "LED" looking. I've adjusted them to give them a duller 70s feel.

The rocker switches in TOS indeed had perpendicular ribbing. I don't have any up-close shots of the rocker switches used in the Refit bridge, but I went with parallel because the google image of a rocker switch I was using as reference had parallel ribbing. But now that you're bringing it up, I think I prefer perpendicular.

Yep! Green when in the positive position...

And red when in the negative position...

"Thirst for Immersion". You just titled your memoir, mate. :)
:guffaw:
