Donny's Refit Enterprise Interiors (Version 2.0)

Aside from matching the computer announcement, I like changing the airlock to "6" if only because it feels like a suspicious number of things were numbered "5" in the movie era. This airlock, the travel pod, the shuttle tug landed at Starfleet HQ in TVH, the Galileo in TFF... it's weird.
I agree with your point, but one of the docking ports on the ship has to be “5”, so if not this one, another one. May as well be this one since it’s canon.

This kind of error (the port number) happens all the time. The turbolift map shows Kirk's lift start immediately forward instead of going up, then forward. Had they used the INTRUDER ALERT and RED ALERT diagrams (seen in the trailers, repurposed in TWOK) then they would have had another contradiction since both of those show Deck 4 as the Officer's Quarters and the former clearly shows the intruder on Deck 4 but Chekov says, "Deck five, keptin, officers' qvarters."

You'll have to go BIG with this video to read the text, but it does say DECK 4.

Nah... it’s just TOS’ version of 47. ;)

And lest we forget TFF’s seventy-something decks in the E-A.

Hahaha. I have the answer! Right after Kirk got in the turbolift, the eager young ensign who greeted him ripped down the incorrectly placed 5 sticker and replaced it with a 6. Rushed departure mistake!

Maybe it was in the "mirror" universe lmao

The bridge docking port is actually number 3. Which complicates things further...

So we have bridge as #3, portside torpedo as #4, and portside engineering as #5 given on-screen. Perhaps that means starboard engineering is #1 and starboard torpedo is #2, so the numbering system might go up-and-over from starboard to portside.

Ahhh dammit! Another wrench!

Looks like I'll just have to "correct" this numbering to be more logical. Which to me is top to bottom, port to starboard. Which is also how they do it in the Navy (Thanks, btw @BK613)

1. Bridge
2. Saucer Underside Port
3. Saucer Underside Starboard
4. Torpedo Bay Port
5. Torpedo Bay Starboard
6. Cargo Bay Port
7. Cargo Bay Starboard

I think that's a good way to do it. Honestly, they probably didn't think the numbering system through and just slapped some random numbers on the set.

BTW, this discussion of the docking ports is making me realize... IN TMP, why the heck didn't Scotty pilot Kirk over to the bridge docking port, so that Kirk could immediately take command of the ship from there? Wouldn't that have been the most logical thing? Or was taking him to the cargo bay just giving Kirk the opportunity to do an unofficial inspection of the ship first?

Good point. Whatever the reason is in-universe (perhaps the bridge port wasn't functional yet), I'm glad the filmmakers chose to drop Kirk off at the cargo bay. Otherwise we wouldn't have gotten this great set!

1. Bridge
2. Saucer Underside Port
3. Saucer Underside Starboard
4. Torpedo Bay Port
5. Torpedo Bay Starboard
6. Cargo Bay Port
7. Cargo Bay Starboard

Alternately, and to be consistent with TWOK...

1. Torpedo Bay Starboard
2. Torpedo Bay Port (TWOK)
3. Bridge (TMP)
4. Lift to top of saucer OR Main Gangway
5. Cargo Bay Port (TMP Kirk enters)
6. Cargo Bay Starboard (TMP pod on other side)
7. Saucer Underside Port
8. Saucer Underside Starboard

The advantage to this is it fixes EVERYTHING to be screen accurate, because there could in fact be a pod docked to the port opposite where Kirk comes in, which would be Cargo 6. Voila.

The only issue is there is a number 3 to the starboard side of the torp deck, but there's no airlock signage or hatch there.

Are you forgetting that the portside airlock of the torpedo bay was labeled as "4"?

Granted, I don't think it's visible in the film but it's there on the set for sure.

Oops. I mistook the Torp bay 3 sign as the Docking Port! But you're right, I don't think it shows on camera (LINK), so you could ignore it. If not, you could do...

1. Saucer Underside Port
2. Saucer Underside Starboard
3. Bridge (TMP)
4. Torpedo Bay Port (TWOK as per your photo)
5. Cargo Bay Port (TMP Kirk enters)
6. Cargo Bay Starboard (TMP "pod available at cargo six" on other side)
7. Torpedo Bay Starboard

But it ain't as elegant!

P.S. Then there's the mystery of Torp Bay 4 (eek).

Yeah... Maybe Scotty is just being a jerk to Kirk? I mean first thing he does is take a turbolift to the bridge looking for Decker.... OR, maybe Scotty knew Decker was in Engineering and was doing Kirk a favor and Kirk didn't bother to ask and headed to the bridge?

Another theory, Scotty needed to get to Engineering to get things going faster and knew Kirk could get to the bridge by lift and Scotty was right where he needed to be?

Or they docked where it would be the most useful to the next passengers. Maybe there's more need on the cargo deck than the bridge?
Even at 10 years old I though it was a cool use of resources that when a pod docked that the crew was alerted that something was available.

It's the kind of world building that went out the window after TMP. Eventually they smashed the window. Then having the window was determined to be a dumb thing that only nerds cared about.

And why doesn't the cargo deck have an enormous window?
