Donny's Non-Trek Stuff

Rogue Squadron had way too many planet missions and not enough space combat. This looks more like space combat.
Rogue Squadron 2 improved on much of that, particularly since it was more focused on the actual original trilogy rather than its own side story. I think that was what drew me to it most, actually getting to play the battle of Yavin and Endor

So weird that this is being announced in the midst of my SW starfighter obsession:

As a player of X-Wing/TIE Fighter back in the day, I'm definitely going to dive head first into this!
I just pre-ordered it for Xbox and on Steam for VR, this is the game I've always wanted.

Correct me if I'm wrong: This is Vader's personal ship, right?
He's the only one we ever see fly it, so it's assumed that it's his.

I am wondering if it is potentially a ship that Vader himself modified. A non-production model built just for him. The TIE-bomber is very similar, but Vader could simply have modified one without the bomb/torpedo pod and made it just as strong but far more maneuverable.

I had previously seen it implied that Vader's fighter was both a custom "hot rod" version built for him, and that some of its advanced features like the bent wings ended up on later production-line TIE fighters like the bomber and the Interceptor. But I'll confess that my knowledge is pretty much limited to the movies; I lost the plot on the novels back in the early '90s, and never got into Clone Wars or Rebels.

Yes, Vader's personal TIE is a TIE Advanced x1, but it's not established in canon that his was the only one, but that his contained various other modifications that the others didn't have. The Advanced x1 was an experimental prototype with a hyperdrive and deflector shields that never underwent mass production, but gave birth to the much more affordable and agile (but hyperdrive-less/shield-less) TIE Interceptor.

Makes me think of the Prototype Gunstar from The Last Starfighter. "she has greater range, more power, and a slight weapons modification. Plus she also has deflective plating, so she can withstand several direct hits"

Ooooooh, I would LOVE to see you do some Last Starfighter stuff <3

I love the different directions this thread could take.

Is it too late to offer Blake's Seven as an option? :luvlove:
Haha. Well, I’ll be honest. I don’t see myself going much outside of Star Wars anytime soon, but should I ever decide to tackle other sci fi stuff, you’ll see it here. But the most likely candidates are 2001, Alien, or Blade Runner. But I’ll be following where my motivation leads, and right now I’m up to my neck in classic Star Wars excitement.

I didn’t want to title the thread “Donny’s Star Wars Stuff” because I felt that would just look odd in a Star Trek forum :p

OMG OMG OMG, The Discovery-1, Yes please <3

Donny, you do exceptional work, no matter what you set yourself to accomplish. But this Darth Vader TIE fighter is FANTASTIC!

Even without you explaining the how of how you did the texturing, I'm learning a ton just by looking at these closeups. Very much appreciated Donny.

Oh, greebles. I feel like they should take less time than they do. But I think it's my limited access to clear, up-close photos of this part of the model (especially the underside) and my drive to get it as right as I can that really eats the time.
