Is there enough information to attempt the Saratoga (NCC-1887) bridge from TVH?
That was based on the TMP though.
The Saratoga is just this weird thing where they shoved the command module up against one side of bridge, a bit like they did for the Grissom.
And yet for the casual viewer (or even the less casual one) it comes across as just "an Enterprise bridge".
I genuinely wonder why they felt the need to do that (for both Grissom and Saratoga). Was it just to change things up visually to differentiate them from the familiar Enterprise bridge or was it something else? They moved everything back in time for the TVH coda, and going further back, Reliant was generally the same, but with one turbo lift and a slight variation in wall paint. Just seems kind of goofy to me, but maybe it was just nothing more than simple cost-savings. Maybe the bridge set was really in bad shape when they filmed the Saratoga footage, hence the super-dark, dimly-lit scenes.
I always assumed the Grissom scenes for SFS were filmed after the Enterprise scenes and that's the arrangement they went with for ST IV since they had that ready to go and then built the add-ons and graphics changes for the end of the film after that.
Yes, I could one day do a Saratoga bridge depiction, but that's outside the scope of this thread, since it's in the design of the TMP-TVH bridges, not TFF and TUC. My current motivation lies within the confines of the fifth, sixth, and the beginning of the seventh movie, and I doubt I'll be venturing back to the early TOS movie aesthetic any time soon.
I came to the conclusion when I was doing the Grissom bridge that the set was most likely standing that way between III and IV. Instead of putting it back the way it was at "default", they just decided to use the Grissom layout for the Saratoga layout. Indeed, all the stations are in the same place relative to the captain's chair, they just upgraded some of the bridge displays that were in frame. It wasn't until the end of IV that they put the bridge back to default, painted it white, and Mike Okuda did his work re-inventing the control schemes.
They redid the entire bridge. There's a shot of Gene and Majel sitting at the science station of the Ent-A bridge at the end of TVH which shows that the science staiton and station directly next to it were redone (both were visible in the Saratoga scenes).One can only assume that the entire bridge was redone, and I know that Okuda designed displays for the entire bridge.
Anyway, not to digress from the focus of this thread, but I will one day in the near future generate the TVH Ent-A bridge, as I have come across references which will allow me to generate the display graphics as they were on set, even the ones we never saw

Actually, a strut wouldn’t fit between those two stations due to the consoles jutting out pretty far, a problem I’ve been aware of and not sure how I’ll solve. None of the other segments had that problem because the consoles weren’t as near the edges as those two.
Obviously, if I leave that strut out it will be set-accurate, but it will look very odd with one missing there when all the rest of the segment borders have a strut.

I believe the chairs were given a full makeover - new blueish upholstery and they repainted the "spine" areas in silver. You can see the changes (albeit heavily weathered) more closely in "The Battle" Stargazer bridge shots.
And yeah, they really needed to replace those floor tiles. Everything there looks so shiny and new... except that.
Looks like they were reupholstered; originally the captain's chair was sort of charcoal, and the other chairs kind of salmony in color. (TMP, TWOK (Reliant))
And the Grissom was pink!

Anyway, I know it’s Enterprise-A related, but this is probably best suited as a discussion on my other thread. I don’t want to get out of control here discussing things outside the scope of the aesthetics and details we saw in TFF thru the TOS portion of GEN. I feel there’s a definite distinction once Herman Zimmerman came on board and that’s the aesthetic era I’d like to focus on here.
I’m also aware this derailing is partly my fault
and for that I apologize.I'd be interested to see how the TVH bridge would have looked like in full. That being said, since it's higher on his priority list, I'd like to see how he does the Excelsior bridge from TUC.

And for the record, I really don't have an aversion to pink. I use it as a secondary and tertiary color on many web site designs that lead towards the red end of the spectrum. I just don't generally like to see it on Starfleet bridge upholstery. Hell, sea-foam green would have looked better on that bridge than pink.... IMO, of course...
