Donny’s Late TOS Movie Era Interiors

I'm having trouble thinking of any time they used a CRT monitor live on the Enterprise-D bridge prior to AGT. They certainly used them on "ship-of-the-week" bridges on occasion (the BOBW2 battle bridge, which penguin posted above; the Sutherland in Redemption II; Baran's ship in Gambit I/II; the Pasteur in AGT), but not the permanent sets.

CRTs were indeed used on the Enterprise-D bridge, and sometimes they were glaringly obvious. I happened to rewatch "A Matter of Honor" the other day (the second season episode where Riker goes on the IKS Pagh for the exchange program). Watch the scene where the Benzite ensign is at one of the rear science stations scanning the Pagh and discovers the subatomic bacteria on her hull. The blinking text in the computer readout is a dead giveaway that a 20th-century CRT was being used, and not a very good one--the font was very jagged, and the refresh rate was so slow you could actually see the alternating red and white color of the font being redrawn. (Still, the episode was one of the highlights of the otherwise raggedy second season!)

Wow those are some jagged pixels, and with some super close ups on the text too. Who thought that was a good idea?

Kinda' like the issue with the George Pal version of "War of the Worlds". With the Technicolor process used (and other factors), the wires that suspected the war machines were quite "invisible" upon the big screen in 1953. But when the prints were "cleaned up" for a DVD pressing, those wires became quite visible. Can we say, "Oops!"?

It wasn’t meant to be seen in HD. By definition, an SD screen filmed for an SD show should look fine at anything less than full screen, especially broadcast over the air.
Yeah, I totally get that, but even in the SD screencaps its glaringly obvious. Not that the issue ever really went away, I remember a similar problem in Nemesis.

Wow, I completely missed those CRTs in season 2, 'The Royale' also has one. It appears only the Science II station was equipped with it, and I'm willing to bet that it was one of Hurley's cost saving measures, and were only used for that season, as there are examples of composited shots in seasons 1 and 3.

And it continues....

Another batch of back-lit displays. Keep in mind that while some of these are re-colored copies of another, I'm also generating a red alert version for each, and most of these have some kind of animation I'm building into them as well. And the animations vary, even between the re-colored copies. I'm aiming to be as exhaustively researched and complete as possible!

Here's an example of how they're looking in-game:

Still a LOT more to go.....
