Don Cheadle replaces Terrence Howard in "Iron Man 2"

Wesley Snipes can play Rhodey in Iron Man 4, after Jeffrey Wright plays him in Iron Man 3. :p

Then, the ultimate twist: Michael Jackson plays a heavily revamped Rhodes in Iron Man V: The Final Bottle of Jesus Juice.

Howard's voice was very distracting and was anything but strong or charismatic enough to be comparable to Robert Downey Jr.'s. Certainly didn't seem commanding enough to be in the military, let alone such an apparently powerfully placed role in the military.

Cheadle does seem an odd replacement, but I'm glad they're replacing Howard nontheless. He honestly came across as weak, both physically and mentally, every time he was on the screen.

It was his voice, IMO.

screw that Will smith for part 3

"I have got to get me one of these!"

Stark- push the red button
Tony? Tony? Tooooooooonnyyyy, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Here are some quotes from Terrence Howard in regards to himself and his past experiences in Hollywood:

You know, it goes without saying that things are different for people of color. I work to pay the bills, not to listen to the hype. I've been the next big thing in this business for a few years. It's funny to me when I hear it now, because I know the way it works. I'm not confused.

"I'm damn near 37 years old, and I'm jumping up and down on the bed like my 10-year-old. I was a wild man" [31 January 2006 upon learning of his Oscar nomination for Hustle & Flow (2005)].

Salary
Idlewild (2006) $40,000
Hustle & Flow (2005) $12,000

(On his first role in The Cosby Show) I got on the show after begging the casting person to see me. We did the episode, I told all my friends it was coming on, and then they cut me out at the last minute. I was furious. So the next day I went to Mr. Cosby's dressing room and asked him why I got cut out. He didn't seem to appreciate that too much. I never got back on the show again.

(2008) You offend me, I will call you on it. I don't care if you're the head of a studio or a P.A. on the set. You disrespect me, you have to pay for that. You're not gonna tell me 'shut up' and I'll shut up. I've always maintained my integrity. That's more important than anything. Being able to face yourself in the mirror at the end of the day and say, 'I still see me there. I don't see a dented version of me.'

Didn't the movie make shitloads of money, and they don't want to spend it on good actors? idiots.

I can't stand Terrence Howard, I think he comes off as hugely cocky.

He doesn't strike me as an action-oriented actor, but he has taken on some really good roles. He was good on SNL, too.

Ahh, all the Marvel fans don't know how good they've got it with the re-casting thing. Try being a Batman fan - the last time anybody played Batman more than twice (I'm talking live-action here) was Adam West, f'r heaven's sake!

^^^
On a related note:

In the case of Batman Forever (then known as Batman Redemption) Michael Keaton did not return because Warner Bros did not offer him enough money for him to want to return for a 3rd film. It wasn't for the lack of Tim Burton as director (who remained as producer). The actor did Multiplicity and Jack Snow, so we know his integrity when it comes to making pictures purely for financial gain.

Same thing happened with Kirstie Alley when it came to shoot Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Alec Baldwin when it came to reprising his role as Jack Ryan in Patriot Games, and now Terrence Howard for Iron Man 2. They were let go because they asked for more money than what the studio was willing to offer them.

Terrence Howard Speaks Out on Rhodey Recast

"It was the surprise of a lifetime," he said. "There was no explanation. [The contract] just...up and vanished. I read something in the trades implicating that it was about money or something, but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren't worth the paper that they're printed on, sometimes. Promises aren't kept, and good faith negotiations aren't always held up."
You can hear the entire interview on NPR.org with the comments about Iron Man 2 starting at roughly 4 and a half minutes in.

that's very odd. Is it possible that Cheadle expressed an interest, and because of his reputation the studio liked him better and kind of pushed Howard out?

^ The part about 'good faith negotiations' makes me think that's likely the case. If the Studio had decided to push Howard out, what would there be to negotiate about? A pay cut to convince them to keep him?

Creditorly yours, the Rent Woman

Ahhh, time and time again we are reminded that in the end...hollywood is all about one thing ladies and gentlemen........SHOW ME THE MONEY.
