Dolce and Gabbana say 'Boycott Elton John'

I don't particularly like Elton's music, and I don't own any.

However, after he called for a boycott following their deeply unpleasant comments about IVF, same sex parenting and 'synthetic children', they've responded with a call to boycott his music.

I can hardly avoid buying their clothes, I don't buy them anyway, but I might download some Elton...

I've never heard of Dolce and Gabbana and have no idea who they are, so I don't much care what they think, nor know why I should.

I like some Elton John songs, I like some Dolce & Gabbana clothes

So I'm gonna just ignore this and pretend it's some kind of trivial, first world, internet twattery that isn't very important. That may be a mistake on my part. Only time will tell

I'm with Elton on this one. The idea that only "real" children happen "naturally" is absurd, and a really flawed way of thinking for people who rely on surrogacy and IVF in order to have children, and if they didn't want this kind of response, they shouldn't have openly advocated their position in a major publication. Seriously, don't they even think about what they're saying before they say it to a mass audience upon whom they rely for wealth generation?

Wait, the designers are gay? What kind of fashion designer says "I don't want people like me to buy my clothes"?

Indeed they are, which is funny, considering they argue that IVF/surrogate children aren't as real because of tradition family values.

Yeah.

As I said upthread, I chalk it up to IDIC. It takes all kinds to make a world, even if we think it's WTF.

I am glad i read this before hand, now they have made my mind up for me, i will be getting my stuff from George of Asda and Jacamo from now on, no more Dolce and Gabbana for me. lol

Don't own any D&C, never will, have some EJ music, mostly old stuff like Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

I think "some kind of trivial, first world, internet twattery that isn't very important" sums it up pretty well.

I'm not yet an expert on John's oeuvre, especially his earlier stuff, but his latest album, The Diving Board, is absolutely wonderful, and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it were his best yet. It's a bit funkier than 2006's marvelous The Captain & the Kid, but is also maybe deeper and richer for it.

John is, in short, in collaboration with Bernie Taupin, an international treasure. So, unless he says something genuinely rotten, to all his prejudiced haters, I say: piss the hell off! :klingon: :p

Elton John and Bernie Taupin and the band were stuck in Jamaica because of a hurricane. "Good-bye, Yellow Brick Road" was written in Jamaica and recorded in France and 14 days. That is a true story!

D & G clothes and accessories are made in Italy - absolutely NO offense meant to Italy, I know we have our similar situations - (wait for it) in sweatshops by Chinese workers making 3€ per day. They can make an article of clothing, or a purse (800€, retail) in minutes.

Buy the Elton John music, not the D & G. :techman:
