Doing a Daedalus Class Variant :)

I think this is great. I've always liked the Daedalus design - I know some people don't, for me its clunkiness is part of the charm (it plausibly looks like something that could have predated the TOS Enterprise, unlike the NX-01), and you've made it look beautiful here. It just goes to show that with modern graphics techniques a design with the TOS-style clean lines and uncluttered surfaces doesn't have to look cheap or simplistic. Something the designers on ENT could have borne in mind, I think.

This just continues to look great and for a design with its strange quirks and odd ball configuration, you make it 'feel' functional and impressive. Super job.

Thanks for all of the positive comments! I really appreciate it.

I too, was disappointed when the NX-01 wasn't a daedalus class ship. But oh well :)

Here's a quick update.. Still no windows on the other side of the sphere, having some trouble with them. Going to do some detailing on the bottom of the nacelle pylons so I don't break my computer over the windows thing LOL

If I may, the thin connecting bits at the junction of the neck and globe forehull look like guywires, they're so small. What purpose do they serve and why do they only appear there?

A bit more...

As for the connecting wires, They are just there to add a bit of support for the sphere section, and to give the ship a bit more of a primitive look compared to more modern federation ships..

Just a quick and fun update for today: Don't mind the repeated registry numbers, this was just a quickie.

This really is great work. The only thing I ever really disliked about the Daedalus class was the lack of a hull undercut at the back. I think the Olympic class looked fantastic.

Thanks. I too disliked that It didnt quite have the cutout like other federation ships, so I added a bit of a swoop in that area as a bit of a callback to the cutout. It's subtle, but I like it.

Also decided to start my next project while I'm finishing up the Magellan.

I'm calling this one Project Resurrection.

It's NOT the Enterprise, and it's NOT a Constitution class ship.

The only other hint I'm giving is that it's going to make Venardhi VERY happy. haha

So as you probably guessed. I'm going to be doing a remodel of my old USS Roosevelt mesh from back about 6 years ago. I found about 40-50 different renders of her on DeviantArt. I had no idea she was so popular in my absence! I thought no one would even remember her haha.

For those who have forgotten, here is one of the nicer renders I found online of her:

And here's tonight's update. As you can see I'm going a bit more modern on the redesign. The original vision for this ship was for it to be a "Phase II"-era ship. But my relative lack of modeling skills prevented that. It ended up feeling VERY TOS. So I intend to try a bit harder this time and keep it in that general Phase-II styling. Not quite movie, but not quite TOS either. A balance between them.
