Hey guys, just wanted to stop by and let you all take a look at this Daedalus Class variant I'm working on.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

^ Nah, I like it where it is now. None of the other Daedalus images we've seen have had the deflector on the sphere, have they?

As for this one: I would make the warp nacelles longer.

Most of the images I've seen don't seem to have any deflector dish.

And that is one of the best looking renderings of the flying butt-plug ever.

It looks fascinating! I've always been a sucker for the spherical designs. I especially like the neck on your version. I'm looking forward to how this will turn out.

:)

NICE WORK!! I like the Daedalus class, partially because it looks a bit primitive and clunky (for lack of a better word- sorry) compared to the classes of ships that followed-- not because of the spherical hull, but because the secondary hull is so completely cylindrical. If my understanding is correct, however, the design made it much easier to produce the ships quickly.

The curves you have created here really gives this variant some grace in additional detail that is lacking in the original design(s) and that is great. I really like it.

Thanks guys! I'm glad you like it! I don't plan to put the deflector at the front of the sphere. My redesign actually fixes one of my biggest problems with the original daedalus design that the deflector is obscured by the sphere section, rendering it useless. On mine the deflector is 100% visible from the forward view.

Here's a shot of a slightly earlier version of the model (about 3 or 4 days old) in motion, so you can get a better idea of how she looks :)

Nice! I saw this over at SFM as well. The only functional issue I see is having so many things come together in one small area (neck & pylons) would seem to be asking for trouble. But, personally I'm all for the "rule of cool", so if it looks good to you, go for it!

I know this isn't visible in the pic you posted here (saw it at SFM), but what's with the tiny support brace from the neck to the top of the deflector? I know it's to try and make it look more primitive, but it really seems out of place with the rest of the ship's style and detailing.

I like it! It has interesting lines to it, particularly the warp nacelle pylons, yet it still maintains its charming "clunkiness."

Very nice work! :)

Hey guys, thanks so much for the positive support!

BJ - Considering the original design has the pylons coming OUT of the neck, I'd say having them attached to the secondary hull is at least a little bit of an improvement :) As for the braces, i figure they're only supplements to help with the stresses of additional occasional gravitational forces.

Here's another update :)

Your Roosevelt is quite possibly my favorite retro-Trek design ever, and this is shaping up quite nicely indeed.

Oh, I am LOVING this, and normally I tend to venture away from Pre-TOS designs.
Very nice interpretation of the Daedalus.
My one suggestion, maybe increase the overall nacelle size by... idk, 5-10%?

heyy awesome, someone remembers me! haha. Yeah that ship was a lot of fun to build :)

Plus he's all about the multi-bounce radiosity, so this gets my support. :techman:
