Does The SJA Deserve another Series?

Dave Scarpa

Commander
Red Shirt
I Liked the 1st Season quite a bit, but have to admit this year was a bit of a Letdown, and it was'nt even rani's fault, although maria and her Dad were a Better fit for the Show and cast. The Problems were the stories, even the Brigadier's reappearance was a bit lackluster. I think I heard it was coming back, but should it?

yes I didnt really appercaite how good Alan was, until he popped back up again later in the 2nd series, however yes the show deserves and is getting a 3rd series.

"My Clydey sense is tingling"

That line alone is enough to ensure infinite renewal.

The low bits were low, but it's not made for people who can buy alcohol god forbid can count their years with double digits.

Yes, it deserves another series - let down though season two was compared to season one, it was still good TV - but there need to be two additions to the writers guide:
1) Sarah Jane Smith is a lot more than just Luke's 'mum'.
2) If your script includes the words: "Sarah Jane: He's my son!" it'll be shredded before we read another word...

^ thats not fair, Luke Smith is a genius, he is something quite unique a being who could possibly be the equal of the Doctor, some stories are going to be Sarah Jane saves the world with just her sonic lipstick, others are going to be stories where Luke does all the hard work.

I would hate to see Luke held back, from a great destiny that I believe he should have one day.

Fine, Luke's a great character. But turning Sarah into a whining woman who keeps shouting 'I'm his mum!' is a bit like the old Sherlock Holmes films where Holmes only looked good in comparison with the idiot way Watson was played.
Watson should be an incredibly bright doctor who's nevertheless in admiration of Holmes' superior talents; Sarah should always be the human who the Doctor was impressed by, and hence someone who's capable of raising someone who might equal him - not a whiny over-protective mommy, which she drifted towards last season.

well she is a mother now, and she should act like one, she is still the Sarah Jane we know, she just has a responsibility in Luke now, its not like she has stopped hunting aliens, and spends her time going to PTA meeting. She should be proud of Luke to be his mother, and sometimes the storyline requires her to be part of the kids word, and that part is that she is Lukes mother.

However the S2 part 2 episode where Sara Jane is trapped in a room with the young girl, and some scientific equipment, and she says "if only Luke were here, he would know what to do" was strange, of course she did build something in the end, however its far form the S1 episode where she grabs the blow torch and builds that device with Maria, not a thought about Luke being there to help.

Its really about finding the balance, between Sarah Jane being amazing the way she always was, and the way she is just the proud mother of an amazing young man, who could be so much greater than any human.

There will come a point where Luke has learnt all he can from Sarah Jane and he will need someone like the Doctor to truly realise what he could be.

I enjoyed season one and have seen a few of the episodes. I was really very impressed with them. I've only seen 2 eps of season 2 but was quite disappointed. I hope the quality improves.

Yeah, Sarah Jane has become a bit whiny and teary of late--I suppose it does make sense, she has only had Luke as her son for a year or two, but she doesn't quite seem the same SJS who adventured with 3 Doctors.

The show def deserves another year though!

Yes of course she should have more series. SJA should get at least six series/seasons. Not counting the two which have already transmitted. :D

If only to redeem the average last series, yes. The Last Sontaran was very good. The rest were either mediocre or half-rehashes of DW or TW stories i.e. End of Days and Father's Day.

Are they nursing Luke to become the Doctor's companion in the future (when SJA will indeed be canceled)?
we can only hope, sadly I fear TV does not work like that.

I would have said Maria was, but I think Yasmin got scared off after doing a convention!

Ultimately I can't see SM using a RTD character as a companion in his series. Having said that it would me amsuing if the Doctor travelled with Rani :D
