Does Janeway hate Harry Kim for some reason? Harry Kim never got a promotion, he stayed an Ensign the whole 7 years he was on Voyager, Nog got a promotion before Harry did. Is there any reason why Harry was never promoted?

Also Janeway gave Harry a formal reprimand for getting a space STD. Worf had to kill Duras before he got a formal reprimand and Kirk seemed to sleep around all the time and never got punished. Heck Riker would occasionally sleep with some alien girls, he was never punished. Why is Harry being singled out here?

Harry didn't get promoted because Kim was only there as a foil for Paris. As such he was always to be subordinate to Paris. Paris' demotion was supposed to be a big, big deal, but the Paris character was pretty much a complete bust. (This was one of the huge failings in Voyager, one that seriously damaged its overall quality.)

Janeway gave Harry a reprimand for getting the STD because she was a mother disappointed at her son having sex for the first time. This is kind of backward, but it was a Ken Biller episode and Biller is something of a Neanderthal.
Harry is not actually her son, but straightforward sexual jealousy was reserved for the J/7 relationship.

One might ask, if Harry was effectively Janeway's son, wouldn't there be clashes with Seven, who could be either Janeway's daughter (sibling rivalry) or lover? Would K/7 be a kind of incest, to be avoided like the plague?
