Does anyone think Star Trek Legacy will ever happen?

It's par for the course.

They have post-Voyager novels (and it didn't stop Prodigy).

Authorized fanfic does not equate to canon.
I didn't say it was canon. However, if there were plans for Legacy, they wouldn't be allowed to do this novel. This novel could only get approved if there were no plans to do anything post-Picard onscreen at the moment.

It's not canon. It's never going to BE canon.

So why would Paramount worry?

Strange New Worlds has tie-in comic books and novels even now while the show is still in production.

They've billed it as Star Trek: Picard.

God willing, if they do a follow-up to Picard set on the E-G, they're going to give the show another name entirely (much in the same manner that Better Call Saul is a spin-off of Breaking Bad).

If Jean-Luc is not going to appear in this follow-up series, why would they continue to preface it with Star Trek: Picard?

Seven of Nine has had a salivating fandom for over twenty-five years. She doesn't need Jean-Luc's pixie dust any more (if she ever did).

It's like @The Gatekeeper said - Paramount's policy for decades now is tie-in novels can't cover periods the official series are going to cover to avoid brand and story confusion. If this novel is coming, that means Legacy ain't.

They're using the Star Trek: Picard moniker for name recognition, just like the DS9 and Voyager relaunch novels before them used their respective series' titles. It's marketing, nothing deeper than that. The cigar is just a cigar.

I already assumed Legacy was a non-starter. This is just more evidence that it isn't.

For now. No one can say what the future brings.

Strange New Worlds is a spin-off of Disco.

We don't see the show being referred to as Star Trek: Discovery -- Strange New Worlds.

If anything, it’s hinting that the Picard movie isn’t happening. Since if they were going to do a Picard movie, wouldn’t it make sense to center it around Wesley, who is on the cover?

Legacy could still happen, even if its set a decade after Picard. That’s plenty of time for an Ent-G refit and a ranked up crew.

For now, it's being lumped together with the Star Trek: Picard series of novels.

It's quite a leap of logic to go from that to saying "STAR TREK: LEGACY WILL NEVER HAPPEN!"

The next novel in the series could have JL being called out of retirement to save the universe (Again).

It's something akin to reading tea leaves. :shifty:

There's the question of why P+ is eager to give SNW the bum's rush out the door.

Obviously. How else would it be categorized/released?

That would be a leap in logic.

But "this seems to indicate they probably have no plans to keep the space open for a sequel/spinoff series" is not.

If Paramount wanted Legacy, a PICARD novel wouldnt stand in the way. If so, anything set after Picard could never be made, including Newsome's project. And If it's about the characters, well  Picard-era characters are/were supposed to appear in her show, so..

It's really not that, it's a dozen reasons beside that.

Coming soon: Discovery -- Strange New Worlds -- Year One.

Theyll probably keep everything status quo in the novel, in case TPTB want to do anything set in the time period. It's not going to be like the old novelverse where galaxy-sweeping events occurred on the regular.

Considering that "Legacy" was just a pipe dream that wasn't really a thing even before Skydance took over, I'm not sure why anyone would think it's a thing now.
