The current secrecy is a big thing for me, really it indicates a serious effort to control the release of the film. A real commitment. I find that the release of the very trailer for Star Trek (in the upcoming Cloverfield monster movie) is the main reason for the effort. I'm excited they care so much for the film that they will premier the trailer without giving away anything.

The second that trailer hits, the Internet will explode.

Few secrets here regarding this Trek film.

No name actors with a plot that has been done over, and over, and over, and over again.

I'll Tivo it on HBO.

...you'll be in the front row opening day and two hours later here starting thread after thread at how awful it was.

Tell me about the plot if you are so sure?

Sharr

I was front stage center for Nemsamess.

I learned my lesson after viewing that abortion of a Trek film.

And since that movie has absolutely nothing to do with this one in any way, you should really unlearn that lesson. Different cast, different setting, different characters, different producers, different writers, different director, different designers, different crew, etc. Seems like they've changed everything that caused NEM to suck out loud.

Thank you. I can't grasp this, why are Trek fans blaming (and assuming) that a whole new production team and actors are destined to do the exact same "screw ups" as the one that came before. That this fresh group would make a better product is assumed that they were given a greenlit to do this project.

Oh and I also don't get why keeping things close to the vest for the moment is some kind of flaw as well. Its not, particularly when you're still filming the thing.

You answered your own question. They're Trek fans. ;)

Its filmed in Panavision. There are actors in it. There's a director. Thank You.

Re: Does anyone really know anything about this upcoming mov

The two teaser posters haven't exactly screamed "REIMAGINING", so I'm confident that it'll be recognizable, with at least the basic elements (almost) unaltered.

Though, at this point I wouldn't be terribly offended if a hat appears in the Movie.

So will I, one way or the other - with excitement or disappointment. And I'll also know if I'm going to see it or not :)

From CHUD.com, the whole experience for the cast is been highly top secret. Traveling in golf carts covered in a black canvas, unable to walk around freely in costume and traveling in groups. I'm wondering why we are not seeing a brief synopsis posted by paramount or at least an official photo of the crew in costume.

I think they're going for an angle that's opposite of how Nemesis was presented. I think they sat down, looked Nemesis, and tried to figure out the reasons why it was a failure. With Nemisis, I mean, the script was leaked, pretty much everything was known about the movie long before it came out. I believe they're trying to swing the opposite way with this, and it definitely does work. I was definitely a naysayer when the announcement came of the new movie, and had no interest.. but with the total blackout of information, I'm at least CURIOUS. I think it's a great move, and it does make me more inclined to see it.

I think it's really only a flaw to those fans who feel Trek owes them and that they're somehow entitled to know every single detail months in advance probably so they can give their stamp of approval.

I'm not trying to flame you personally Kieran, but the same number of fans who are complaining about the "no-name" cast would be complaining about a cast that included A-listers in the lead roles. This is also true for every other aspect of this film, including the plot.

Obviously Abrams needs to make the film he thinks should be made, beacuse NO MATTER WHICH PATH he chooses to take and what creative decisions he makes, there will be nearly the EXACT SAME percentage of fans complaining about those decisions.

Maybe you are not happy with the alledgedly "no-name" cast, but this movie isn't being made for you...it's being made for a broad audience of movie-goers in the hopes of creating a net gain of Star Trek fans who will pay to see more films coming from this franchise.

Re: Does anyone really know anything about this upcoming mov

Well one of the Matts on here (really, does it even matter who?) said the movie was 99.9% guaranteed to be a reboot, and he backed that statistic up... by saying it'll be a reboot. :p

Re: Does anyone really know anything about this upcoming mov

My barometer for this film is is if it first entertains me, second if it stands out from other Trek productions, and thirdly if it adds new layers to these "iconic" characters as well as giving a new "vibe" to the franchise.

I hope along the way we find out something we don't "know about Kirk, Spock... ect" or what we think we already know can be viewed in a new light adding not just depth to this piece but earlier pieces. Sure that will tick off a few of the hardcore, how did someome put it "canonites". I do hope it plays agianst "fanon" as well - but that's my own personal issue.

Since the writers claim to be aware of the books I hope Diane Duane "Rihannsu" get a nod in some way not to mention "Spock's World" where if my memory serves it was indicated genetic engineering indeed played a role in Spock's conception.
