Does anyone here exercise regularly?

I’m getting my time on the elliptical machine up to 45 minutes now. Have not dropped an ounce or weight, nor can I blame it on gaining muscle, as my pants fit the same as before.

I think I’m going to need more than 4-5 weeks to start this process, just like a few years ago.
It'll take a while to see results. When I start a new program it normally takes a few months before I see big differences.

Yeah. And if I don’t continue, I’ll never get to that 3 month mark where changes become apparent. So ... it’s off to the gym tomorrow. I love my ipod to shut out everything else and just listen to music as I go.

^^My iPod is an absolute necessity in the gym. My workout is so much more intense when I have my music.

I run.

I was a runner/triathlete for many years earlier in my life, but due to a variety of circumstances and medical conditions had to give it up several years ago. I then gained a lot of weight - I guess that tends to happen when someone running 40 miles a week and biking 50 or so stops suddenly, but keeps eating like she's running and biking regularly. I struggled with the weight gain for several years and tried to contain it, but I think my metabolism had become dependent on running and a lot of activity in general, because no matter what I did with my diet, I was not successful in getting my weight down and keeping it down. I could simply LOOK at food and gain weight.

Anyway, last year I just got sick and tired of being sick and tired, and hated feeling like a slug, and so started walking and working out with weights every day, eventually adding in some jogging. I lost pretty much all the weight I'd gained over the previous decade and in January of 2010 started a full blown running program again. Now I run several times a week - usually between 3 and 6.5 miles, depending upon the day. Ran the Peachtree Road Race in July, for the first time in several years.

The running has caused some other issues with the same medical conditions I had before, but I think on balance, it's worth it. Running not only keeps my weight down, but also helps me with my physiological predisposition to depression. I'm just thankful for the ability to do it again. :)

I had to skip running for a week because I was sick, and I was miserable. I'm really glad I'm back in my running shoes again.

Cardio. Cardio, cardio, cardio. And then cardio. Did I mention cardio? I'd like to tell you about... cardio.

Seriously, I just have a real weakness for it. Which is why my legs max out your average press on a regular basis and I haven't developed a gut despite being poor enough to eat crap in the past few weeks. :(

It's great stress relief for me, too, plus I'm asthmatic so it's all the more vitally important to keep my lungs used to the fact that I'm not bending down to their decreased oxygen acceptance.

You know, back in the day, I was totally addicted to running. And it was incredible how quickly that addiction took hold again. I don't think anyone but another runner would really understand this, but after I got started on the road back to running, I was actually motivated to lose weight so that I could run again - not motivated to run so that I could lose weight.

Running used to be a very important coping mechanism for me, and it quickly became one again. It wards off depression (that whole runners high is real), and it's also a way of coping with frustration and/or anger. Nothing like blasting out a few miles to help you to chillax.

That's how I am with power-walking. I don't run much because that's something my asthma will bitch about and there's little I can do about it -- I'm a cheetah, I sprint -- but without power-walking I get depressed.

I'd lose weight to power-walk more effectively before anything else, if I had to.

Gawd, your avatar is phenomenal, PKTechGirl. I'd like to go on record for stating it's one of the more fringe reasons I started my big Deep Space Nine rewatch.

Man, I wish I liked cardio that much. I am all about lifting heavy ass weights, but ask me to jog, and I will throw a fit. I absolutely despise cardio. It's just so boring!
