Does anyone else think bringing Palpatine back is cheap fanservice?

No more so than when it happened twenty-seven years ago in "Dark Empire," a story which I have always loved and wanted to see a movie adaptation of.

Kor

I think it will probably depend on how the story plays out. It sounds like they have something specific in mind for him, so I think it'll end up feeling like it was necessary for the story they are telling.

Does anyone think that EVERYTHING JJ ABRAMS CONTRIBUTED TO THE ST is cheap fanservice?

Fixed that for you.

I actually like it. It is highly reminiscent of
The Old Republic video game were the Sith Emperor is able to keep himself around despite people trying to kill him.

The stuff I have been reading and hearing, this could be the coolest thing in Star Wars, or will generate more eye rolls than TPM.

Guess it will all come down on how it's executed.

"Do not underestimate the powers of the Emperor, (or suffer your father's fate you will)". ~Yoda.

Can't say if it's cheap until I see the payoff. Honestly I'm extremely uninterested in that aspect.
I think that maybe they did include him to offset some of the ridiculous reaction to TLJ, maybe tricking fans into thinking they're back on coarse or whatever.

Dunno about 'cheap fanservice' but I don't like the idea. IMHO, bringing Palpatine back cheapens his original death, robs it of its meaning.

And if characters like that can never truly die, then it lends a sort of hopelessness to the whole thing.

Guess in 30 years Snoke will be back. Tis but a flesh wound!

It's very expensive fanservice, but it could turn out to be awesome, unless they rehash Return of the Jedi, which is a distinct possibility.

Plenty of ways an old sith master has come back in the books, games, comics etc. Old sith magic, artifacts etc. fused to a holocron, possesing clones, even just coming back as a force ghost to train..
who knows.. hoping for the best. but it being JJ.. my hopes are mediocre at best..
