Does anyone else dislike Raffi?

I don't dislike her, and found her character believable (more flawed than most ST characters), but then what they did with her at the end there...
I don't know. Neither of those characters ever showed inclinations of that in their past (not that that is necessary, I suppose), but it was almost like using it to explain why she was such a bad wife and mother... which is horrible, IMHO.

So yeah, she might have actually been one of my favorites on the show (a close second to Seven perhaps), but then they just went in a direction that felt forced, which isn't a bad thing unto itself, except that it was unnecessary. It did nothing for the plot of the show, except maybe give a lousy excuse to her past.

Or am I the only one that finds {bad mother + bad wife + bad/potty mouthed Starfleet officer + drugs & alcohol = lesbian}, just a completely terrible message? But other than that weirdness at the very end, I was fine with her character. So much better than the flawless, untouchable Starfleet's Got Talent winner and Borg Queen.

For the same reason I embrace Pikard's new-found flaws, although others seem to hate it. I just wish he hadn't completely forgotten he had a brother. LOL

I suppose it comes with Captainhood - eventually, you've been brainwashed/kidnapped by aliens so many times, your past gets to be a jumbled mess. You'd think they'd eventually figure-out to NOT have captains go on away missions (not that that saved Pikard, mind you).

From what I've seen, you're the only one who's connected those things.

That's called the Kirk complex.
If there's such a thing, it would be named after Chuck Cunningham.

Making connections like that was part of my job, once.

I was shown some concept art for the D&D 4th edition line, before it got officially released. They were archtypes for all the character classes. After looking them over (and everyone else so thrilled with them smiling like idiots), I said "so you are going for diversity?" "Yup", they replied, still smiling, now like the Cheshire cat. "And you made the Bard and the Rogue black?" "Yup" again, they replied. "So, ummm... basically the two black people are the thief and the entertainer?" Their jaws dropped. They didn't create diverse archtypes, they created stereotypes. However, they still released it just that way, because concept art is expensive, and they figured screw-it. But as I said, it was part of my job to spot potential problems.

Poor Chuck.

Another show - I believe it was Boy meets World - had a similar thing happen. There was a little sister that just got completely forgotten about for several seasons. In the last(?) season, she comes downstairs, and everyone looks at her weirdly, and says, "where have you been?"
She replies' You sent me to my room three years ago! You never said I could come out!"
The mother replies, "Then you shouldn't be out now, so go back to your room!" {and the little girls storms up the stairs in a huff}. We never see her again.

Fans must have been asking about her, and thats how they handled it. PRICELESSS :guffaw:

On Family Matters, one of the kids went upstairs and never came down again!

Thirty years later, she's still up there!

I wonder if Hollywood is trying to tell us something with all these kids disappearing...
Kids are too difficult, require a lot of work, and money, and energy?

I know, it surprised me too ;)

My daughter shared with me a quote from a friend: "My mom got mad at me for wanting a tattoo and telling me they were expensive, painful and permanent. And then she wants me to have kids!"
