I don't dislike her, and found her character believable (more flawed than most ST characters), but then what they did with her at the end there...
I don't know. Neither of those characters ever showed inclinations of that in their past (not that that is necessary, I suppose), but it was almost like using it to explain why she was such a bad wife and mother... which is horrible, IMHO.
So yeah, she might have actually been one of my favorites on the show (a close second to Seven perhaps), but then they just went in a direction that felt forced, which isn't a bad thing unto itself, except that it was unnecessary. It did nothing for the plot of the show, except maybe give a lousy excuse to her past.
Or am I the only one that finds {bad mother + bad wife + bad/potty mouthed Starfleet officer + drugs & alcohol = lesbian}, just a completely terrible message? But other than that weirdness at the very end, I was fine with her character. So much better than the flawless, untouchable Starfleet's Got Talent winner and Borg Queen.
For the same reason I embrace Pikard's new-found flaws, although others seem to hate it. I just wish he hadn't completely forgotten he had a brother. LOL
