Does anyone else dislike Raffi?

It isn't available in the UK for some time.

Any good? Other than Prodigy, the others haven't really aimed at that mark.

(And I should have said "one franchise" rather than "one show" as I see it all as part of the same continuity. Just.)

It's what your'e looking for. Angst pushed into the background and fun on a spaceship with a different adventure each week.

There's only been one episode so far but it's very promising.

I'd have wished for a more classic Trek feel to all the new shows, but if you're right then hurray, I'll take that plus Prodigy as a win!

It's what killed the franchise in 2005.
It died for a number of reasons - general fatigue, a lull in storytelling for a few years, studio politics, a need for fresh blood that arrived too late - but I'm not sure that was a key one.

Either way, it is of course sixteen years later - safe to say there's been some fallow time.

I don't know if I'd say that Enterprise had a classic Trek feel exactly. It was definitely an attempt to do something a little bit new. And then when that didn't work they attempted to do other things that were new, with more success. Like serialisation!

Like DS9?

Liking a character, disliking a character. Either is just fine. Starting threads and posting so you can be borderline misogynistic and/or borderline racist is "other level" stuff.

I like Raffi OK for the same reasons as a lot of others, she's a "real" person, not a perfect example of Gene's Utopian vision. I think we'd have to go way farther than 400 years into the future to break out of this particular mold.

Quite true. I initially disliked Tilly when DSC started, but I didn’t feel the need to create an entire post about why I didn’t like her, or if others didn’t like her either for the same reasons I didn’t. That kind of thing tends to say more about the person making the post than the fictional character they are maligning.

You missed out the wanker that is Les Monves.

I’m surprised this took as long as did, at what point did I bring up her gender or race? The same criticisms would apply were she white and male.

Maybe it's OK if it's regarding something that's almost universally liked. For instance, if someone didn't like "The City on the Edge of Forever", or Star Trek II, or "The Best of Both Worlds". They might start a topic about it to see if anyone else agrees with them.

There's a YouTube video that admits "I Hate 'The Inner Light'!" as an example. And I admit, it makes some good points (but still love the episode).

The fact that you were waiting for this to happen shows that you had an ulterior motive for creating the thread topic.

I wasn’t “waiting for it” it’s just such a predictable response. If that’s the case why aren’t I hating on Burnham, Janeway, Sisko or any of the other minority characters?
