Doctor Who S7 Wishlist

So who wants the Dream Lord to appear again in S7?

No...The Dream Lord only worked because of the fact we didn't realise until the end of the episode that it was the Doctor...I think there's a thing in Doctor Who where "that villain was awesome, bring them back"

Like the Angels, the Dream Lord can't get better...

Exploring the Doctor's dark side though and have him see the Dream Lord's reflection when he does something dark? Absolutely!

The Dream Lord was the result of getting high on weird space pollen. Bringing him back wouldn't make a whole lot of sense.

^ The Dream Lord was more than that, he was an embodiment of the Dark Side of the Doctor - a Dark Side apparently so palpable that under the right circumstances it could sustain itself with a personality, appearance etc

It's sort of like Buddy from the Nutty Professor II, or Phoenix from the X-Men...

I think that exploration of the Doctor's Dark Side (I think we're building up to learning where the Valeyard came from) is interesting - especially when it's done as well as it was with the Dream Lord - but that it's not the Dream Lord as a character, but what he represents!

That's all well and good, but at the end of the day, he's still just a vision brought on by crazy space pollen.

I agree with this. I love that, with every new Doctor, we seem to be getting a darker and darker side of him. There have been moments where Matt Smith has been downright terrifying.

So, while I love exploring the darker side of the Doctor, I do not want to see the Dream Lord again.

actually, the Dream Lord's X-books equivalent would be more accurately Onslaught, the dark side of Charles Xavier's psyche.

I only saw the films I'm afraid! Though I understand the Juggernaught is now endorsing some form of hands only CPR?

There was also a character called the Entity from the X-Men / Micronauts crossover from the early / mid eighties or so. (I would link, but Wikipedia is mostly blacked out for today.) If I recall, the Entity was more closely associated with Xavier's dark side - and ultimately far more destructive - than Onslaught would later be. I guess Xavier's dirtied his bib a bit.

there is a character i'd like to see again but, she's from the tenth doctor era. at any rate, i'd like to see the doctors cloned daughter come back. they left her on a sort of clifhanger ending where either a reappearance (or spin-off if you'd like to imagine) was going to happen and they just let it drop. i really wanted to see her again, but since the show pretty much cut all ties from the relationships of the tenth doctor to the eleventh doctor, i'm not going to hold my breath.

still... it would be nice to see.

^Well I wouldn't say they cut every tie, there's River for starters, and the Eleventh Doctor hung out with Sarah Jane as well, plus in LEt's Kill Hitler we saw
Rose, MArtha and Donna...

I remember a rumour that the original ending for The Doctor's Daughter was that Jenny was dead, end of discussion. But it was actually a request from Steven Moffat that the ending be changed so that she's revived.

Any know if there was truth to that?

yeah at the end of the episode she "regenerates" (doesn't get a new body) and steals a ship and goes off to presumably explore.

Its true she was originally supposed to snuff out and got a reprieve...mot sure if it was the Moff's doing though...

I think this was brought up in the commentary track...can't remember now though. It does seem to be a New Who urban legend though.

I've done some digging, and I found proof to the claim here (scroll down to Story Notes). I'll quote the relevant portion:

According to the BBC Podcast Russell T Davies said the original intention was to kill Jenny off at the end of the episode. It was Steven Moffat who expressed the desire to bring her back to life.

Back in the day it was seen as a sign Jenny might come back perhaps even as the Eleventh's first companion, but I've since read that Moffat only made the suggestion because he felt it made for a better ending for the episode, not that he had any intention of using the character later.

That said, the PR value of hiring Mrs. David Tennant would be pretty high. Ironically Sophia Myles, Tennant's ex, is the one making the news right now. And the fact those tweets came out last week just as it was announced that production is set to start in mid-February -- the window's right for lining her up for a guest appearance if not a full companionship.

Even if Moffat himself had no plans to bring Jenny back, the ending obviously leaves the door open for someone to bring her back.
