Doctor Who on the wane

I'd like to go the opposite direction and have our current Doctor meet a Doctor from a very distant, future regeneration. It might even be fun to frame it from the Future Doctor's perspective and somehow have the current Doctor not realize who he's working with.
How that might play out...

DOCTOR ELEVEN
Wait! You were me all along!

FUTURE DOCTOR
Oh, I suppose so, old boy. (Beat) Or should I say 'young boy'?

DOCTOR ELEVEN
But which me are you? Twelfth? You're not the thirteenth and last, are you? Oh, dear...

FUTURE DOCTOR
(Raps DOCTOR ELEVEN with his cane)
Balderdash and poppycock! You didn't believe that old nonsense of Borusa's, now did you? Oh, of course I did.
(Pause)
I'll have you know you stopped keeping track after the five hundredth regeneration. When you reach fourteen thousands years old, it simply doesn't matter anymore. It's not like I can remember any of my very early yous that well.

DOCTOR ELEVEN
Five hundred regenerations...
(Pause)
A few hundred years ago I told Clyde that Time Lords could regenerate five hundred and seven times just to shut him up. I didn't think I was right.

FUTURE DOCTOR
We all make lucky guesses at times. Even me, when I'm young and don't know any better.

DOCTOR ELEVEN
Hold on. Have I been a woman? Or worse...?
(Pause)
A ginger?

Correct, he has wanted to be ginger onscreen at least for the last two regenerations.
And as for sevearl Doctors having time in a special on their own and meeting up with other incarnations at the end has been done. The Five Doctors, anyone?

Sorta, but they kinda started together and worked in the same area. The type of story I would like to see would be going to each period for each doctor. Seeing them basically in their element.

I have thought that the Dream Lord was a tease of the Valeyard myself. I've been working on a fan fic that deals with the Valeyard.

What made it doubley brilliant for me, is the guy who played the Dream Lord also played Karl Rove in "W."

But that might just be my sense of humour!

Oooh do share when you are done, I for one would love to read something about the Valeyard character. He was tragically underused on TV in his one appearance and sadly not much has been creatively done with him since.

Yes, they have to finish that particular part of the story arc before they get rid of the current Doctor. Not sure when that will be, however.

And ratings are bound to go crazy when Amy Pond leaves.....

Only until the audience has made up their mind as to what they think of the new companion (assuming that by "crazy" you mean a ratings boost rather than decline). Given that fans of old and new Who are quite used to the show, you'll probably find the ratings spike/decline is minimal since most, if not all Who audiences are used to the concept of the show changing its central cast from time to time.

The curiosity factor for a new companion shouldn't really last more than 3 or 4 episodes.

Oh I believe the ratings will go up as fans will want to see what happens to the Ponds. Then once the new companion settles in, ratings will possibly go down to normal again.

^ I just saw it a few hours ago :) Nice that someone else decided to post it. They deserved it for last series, especially Karen.
