Doctor Who on the wane

I get the two of you mixed up because the tenor of your posts is so much more informed, cultured and lucid than just about anyone else.

Dr Who may or may not be on the wane but I think the popularity of the Smith Doctor to the Tennant Doctor is about the same, they are both well liked perhaps not in the same ways I don't know.

I'm actually a little surprised the show didn't take more of a hit after David left. Guess it means most viewers really are fans of the show rather than a particular actor.

What wil save Who in 2013?

You know you want it.

I want this too BUT only Tennant would be interested. Not only did Chris not only not regret leaving the show, but he was asked in an interview as to whether he would return in a one off episode and he clearly said "no". It's a shame because he is my favourite of the three. Had Eccleston gone on to do a further 2 or 3 seasons, there would be a lot more debate over who was the better Doctor between Eccleston and Tennant.

If he walked by your house and saw you watching it he'd snip your cable. If you asked him to sign your DVD's he'd scratch them with his pen. He'll kick your son's K-9 toy when he walks past your house. On the night of the anniversary he'll do an ITV special. Curse that Eccleston!

People change their minds. I would be surprised if Chris doesn't come back for a special eventually. The 50th anniversary? Probably not. The 60th? Much more likely.

I'd be surprised if he did return, why would the 60th be any different than the 50th when he'd essentially be ten years older? It just seems like he wants nothing to do with the franchise...also doesn't he have a thing against doing "sequels"?

I don't know if Eccleston will change his mind or not, but Tom Baker refused to do the 20th anniversary, then later filmed a scene for the 30th, and he refused to do audio dramas from 1999 on, then started doing them in 2012. People change their minds.

The only way I'd see Chris changing his mind to do the 50th Anny special is if he was so blown away by the quality of the script that he couldn't refuse but to do it.

Yeah I can't imagine him getting any LESS grumpy or irritable about the subject in 10 years.

Although he did seem to genuinely appreciate the love that kids had for the character, so there's always a small chance that that will be enough to draw him back in.

Yea, he seems to be all about "This Performance stands on it's own" and when it's done, it's done, he won't "Milk It", and the best way to avoid that is by not looking back at previous roles (BTW, there have been several roles I've wished he did Milk a bit, but...Maybe that's the Point  )

Well Connery came back as Bond...twice! And Nimoy even went so far as to write a book entitled "I am not Spock!" Then years later wrote one called "I am Spock!"

Whilst I think it is, unfortunately, unlikely that he'd come back, I don't think we can ever rule it out.
