Doctor Who books (fiction, nonfiction, nonfact)

Yeah, I found out about the twist, but I'm kind of glad did, because I had no idea who the character involved was before I stumbled across him being in the comic on the TARDIS wiki, so now I'm working on the serial that introduced him since that should help me get the full context.

Are there any especially good New Series books that you guys would recommend? I've only read The Stone Rose and The Resurrection Casket, and I've been curious to check out more of them. I was kind of hoping for either 10/Martha, 10/Donna, or 11/Amy & Rory stories, but I'm open to any of the Doctors & Companion combination or Doctor with one off Companions.

I'm currently in the process of collecting and purchasing all 73 Eighth Doctor adventure novels.

I am presently reading Gary Russell's (yes, THAT Gary Russell who is besties with Eccleston) Placebo Effect. When the show returns in years to come, i'd love to see them try and capture the tone and pacing of the books. Loving them so far, though Sam isn't my favourite companion. However, each author has done an excellent job of capturing McGann's voice, and overall, the Doctor. Keeping in mind, we'd only had 90 minutes of McGann at this point.

Sam gets very interesting soon, assuming you are reading order. :)

I am :) They are arc-sensitive, moreso than I expected!

She's not bad, and her growth in Seeing I was excellent.

But there are times when she can be a bit one-note. I'm definitely enjoying her more as a 21 year-old than I am as a teenager.

Here are the New Series Adventures books and audio books they have on Libby, I was just curious if anybody had any thoughts on any of them, if any of them are must reads or if there are any I should avoid, things like that.

On the subject of the Eighth Doctor Adventures, coming soon from Obverse Books:

Party like it’s 1998!

‘Back then, no one at the BBC wanted much to do with Doctor Who. So, there was no one looking over my shoulder. No one sticking their oar in, saying ‘You can’t do that…!’

Such freedom! All taken for granted at the time, of course. I asked authors what they wanted to do, and they told me and from that first chat we had a giddy time working it out and bringing it all into being.’

(from Steve Cole’s Introduction)’

Samantha Jones…Faction Paradox…the Amnesiac Doctor…Sabbath…Iris Wildthyme…Compassion…President Romana…

Come with us, back to 1998, to the decadent fin-de-siecle – where there’s a marvellous party and further new adventures still going on… Meet old friends and new in this treasury of tales celebrating the most fun and joyful of all the Doctors Who.

With an introduction from range supremo Steve Cole and twenty new stories, PARTY LIKE IT’S 1998 is a welcome return to the glory days of the last Wilderness Years, when books told the ongoing story of our favourite Time Lord!

This book is a charity fundraiser, with nobody involved making any money and all profits going to charity.

No attempt has been made to circumvent BBC copyright

Authors include Jon Blum, John Peel, Colin Brake, Andrew Hunt, Mags Halliday, Gary Russell, Jonathan Morris, Philip Purser-Hallard, and others. Obverse publishes official fiction in the Faction Paradox and Iris Wildthyme lines and I seem to recall a fellow named Moffat writing a foreword for one of its charity anthologies. Obverse is not a racket; a lot of good and interesting people contribute to their books. The only downside is that you have to order from them directly, though they reissue some things through lulu to reduce shipping costs. They generally make things available as ebooks, too. Oh, and their line of books from the Peter Cushing version of Doctor Who is a lot of fun. Small press, not cheap, but I've always found them worth the effort. https://obversebooks.co.uk/product/party-like-its-1998/

I have fond memories of Judgement of the Judoon, though it has been sixteen years since I read it.

I will absolutely order this as soon as there is an eBook available (which the publishers have said will happen).

With Belinda? I know there's also novels with the Fifteenth Doctor and Belinda due to be released, if not already, though that just raises the issue that there doesn't seem to be room in the season to fit adventures between episodes.

Then again, inserting adventures between or even during unlikely episodes is old hat for Doctor Who tie-ins.

Multiple stories have been set between 'The Smugglers' and 'The Tenth Planet' by claiming they landed at a different "coldest place on earth" first!
