Do you mean two a year, seen as it's not going three till next year-

2013- Iron Man 3 / Thor 2
2014- Cap 2 / Guardians of the Galaxy
2015- Avengers 2 / Ant-Man
2016- Cap 3 / Doctor Strange

I meant three in production, which is where we are now with Spider-man, Thor 3 & GotG2 currently in various stages of completion.

Doctor Strange is now the highest grossing solo MCU film at $616 million world wide. Those Asian markets really put this film over the top. It's #9 out of highest grossing films of the year. Knocking X-Men Apocalypse and Kung Fu Panda 3 out of the top 10

Don't forget the 2 films a year in 2008 and 2011.

2008: Iron Man 1 and The Incredible Hulk
2011: Thor 1 and Captain America TFA

I do wonder if 2017 will oversaturate the market. 3 MCU films, 2 DCEU films and one film from the XCU. Plus the tv and Netflix shows.

Eh, what's the definition of a solo film here?
Because Iron Man 2 and 3, Thor 2 and Cap 2 and 3 made more than that.

That's the same number as this year(except MCU:XCU is 2:2 instead of 3:1).

Oops. I meant to say "debut" solo film. I expect Strange to overtake Thor 2 in the coming weeks, if Moana and Fantastic Beasts don't suck up too much of the audience.

Ah, I see. Far out, man.

To be fair people were asking that about 2016. We ended up with 6 comic book movies but would have been 7 if Gambit had met its original October 2016 release date (haha)

Seems to me the only comic book movies that flop or don't do as well are the ones that just aren't that great, therefore don't get great reviews, therefore people aren't as bothered about seeing them. People didn't give "Fant4stic" a miss because they were tired of comic book movies or even because of that godawful title. They didn't see it because, like me, thought it looked crap and heard it was indeed crap.

Make a great movie and people'll wanna see it, make a poor movie or even a pretty average (poor compared to the last one) like X-Men Apocalypse and people won't be as interested.

What?
2016 had X-Men: Apocalypse, Batman V Superman, Captain America: Civil War, Suicide Squad, and Doctor Strange - Plus Agents of Shield, and Agent Carter; the Daredevil Netfix series, and the 4 CW Shows that haveall been on the air for multiple seasons at this point....

IMO if 2016 didn't oversaturate (and the films all did well - yes, WB wanted BvS to do better - but it was hardly a flop; and X-Men did okay, not great, but I think that's more due to how Fox made the film more than due to a lot of fatigue per se); I don't think they have much to worry about in 2017.

^ Can't argue about X-Men Apocalypse or TMNT 2 (the other comic book movie released this year that everyone forgets about).

Box Office Mojo has the current grosses for the various super hero movies this year. Apocalypse brings up the rear by a long shot.

I suppose you're right.

Damn - I forgot to include Deadpool; and I loved Deadpool. ;)

But yeah, I don't think 'oversaturation' is much of a worry given 2016's performance with these type of films; and as long as they're done well, the interest in the various films is still there.

Well, MOS had Russell Crowe (Oscar winner, multiple nominee), Kevin Costner (Oscar winner as director, nominee as actor), Amy Adams (Oscar nominee), Lawrence Fishburne (Oscar nominee), Diane Lane (Oscar nominee) and the likes of Christopher Meloni, Michael Shannon (Oscar nominee), Harry Lennix, Richard Schiff and Michael Kelly. That's pretty top-notch.
Oh, right, I forgot about Costner, Fishburne and Lane.

Strange lost to The Jungle Book for the Academy Awards category of Special Effects. I know it's a win for Disney either way, but it would've been cool for the MCU to win something.

Odd when you think about it. Neither CACW or BvS were nominated for anything this year. BvS especially for the original score by Hans Zimmer.

In all honesty, that was one of the worst, most irritating scores Zimmer's ever done.

After I saw Les Miserable get an Oscar nom for the original song they created just for the movie (By The Stars) and sung by Russell Crowe, I learned the Academy loves to give props to "original" things. Even if they aren't spectacular.

They used it in the trailer for WW, so I'm pretty sure they'll probably use it in the movie. I think as far the DCEU is concerned, that is her theme music.

While I do like it - you have to admit - chord and length-wise, it's not much. ;)

I'm back and forth on buying this. I double dipped on all of the Phase One films, then bought the Phase One Box Set. I double dipped on all but two films in Phase Two cause they announced the Phase Two Box Set early enough. I feel a Phase Three box set is almost a certainty at this point.
Should I get an itch to watch a Phase Three film I feel Netflix is going to have it either to stream or disc at home. Their partnership with Disney seems pretty cozy for the foreseeable future.
