Do you want to live forever?

Only if by living forever I was truely immortal and couldnt be killed or injured. Not much fun finding out you will live forever and then getting seriously burned, paralyzed or maimed.

I agree, what fun is it to be able to live forever only to get run over by a bus.
You would almost have to be like a Timelord in Doctor Who and have the ability to regenerate if you are seriously injured. Also, the aging process would have to be slowed down so in your second century you would not have to get around in a wheel chair.

Do YOU want to live forever?

Of course there will have to be some adjustments to society with longer lifespans, but come on, it's hardly an insurmountable problem, if there even is one. People take up new careers, they get bored and move on. Human nature might take care of that all by itself.

As for resources, well maybe longer lifespans will give us the long-term thinking we need to really colonize space. I don't see the downside there.

You are kidding right? The longer lifespan of western nations is already causing a gigantic pensions headache.

Well, I'd like another 100 years or something, but if you lived forever you would eventually get really bored.

Come on, you apes! You wanna live forever?

Forever is a long stretch. I would not commit to that. Even a very long time (hundreds of years) sounds like it could get boring in the long run. You would be struck with old habits, old friends, old enemies.

Reincarnation with full memories would be nice, tho. Or the Time Lord thing. There are so many things to learn and discover.

If the OP question had been "Do you want to be a Time Lord?" there would have been a unanimous answer. Perhaps the first time in TrekBBS history.

I would hate to live forever, yet, I'm afraid of death. I would like to live long enough until humans discover more planets/solar systems and go and live on them (Which probably won't happen for millions of years, but whatever). If I live for 100 years, I will die in 2094... I suppose quite a lot will happen until then, so i'm happy :)

I'd like to be immortal. But I'd also like to have an off switch. An off switch which only I can push, and I can do so whenever (if ever) I feel ready.

Eh? Why am I not surprising? I thought you already knew that it's same thing as time lord. I do want to live forever like that, but NOT that forever. Do not want to be stick around when the universe come to an end. I do not want my body to be floating around in the universe for all eternity.

Now, that's not cool.

I don't think you should think of the question as 'would you like to live forever' but rather, 'would you like to have your life ended without your consent'. In other words, to live indefinitely is preferable to having a set limit. To give the option of choice is certainly preferable and therefore I believe that everybody, in some sense, would like to live 'forever'.

Ideally you would want to live a life in a linear fashion and then live for eternity in some kind of permanent present in a state of happiness.
