Do you want the Kelvin Universe to continue?

It really isn't. That is an total over-simplification of a film that, bar the reactor scene has an entirely different plot. But you know that don't you?

We have differences of opinion and that's fine, but I don't think it's fair to make statements about what I "know" or don't "know". Only I would know what I'm thinking.

I mean, Trekmovie asks Meyer directly "Have you seen the JJ movies" (movies as in plural, and only 2009 and Into Darkness had come out as of the interview), and Meyer responded that he had. Furthermore, he describes scenes about Spock punching people (most likely referring to Spock's fight with Khan) that he'd likely only know if he saw the movies.

If Meyer had not seen them, he would most likely just have said so. I believe him at his word when he said he saw them.

But we are talking about ONE scene in an otherwise completely different film, when your original statement was:

'The plot of Into Darkness was entirely a retread of "Khan wants revenge". That's a full third of the Kelvinverse'

I apologise if I came off as snarky, but your statement, I feel is 99% untrue.

At the end of the day, if Nick Meyer says STID is a rip off of TWOK, that doesn't make it so.

The film is no more of a rip off than Skyfall is of Goldfinger for having the Aston in it. One scene is a homage, that's it.

We've got 3 movies, and with how Beyond ended, we could leave it there, call it a trilogy, and move on. I kind of like the Kelvin Universe and would like it to continue parallel with Trek Prime.

Nah I'm glad its over. All the Kelvin movies gave us was generic sci fi which has carried into prime trek. Lens flares anyone? Yuck.

Yup. I never, ever, used ST 09 in my counseling work or saw people benefit by Kirk or his example. Nope.

This trend is never going to change whenever Executives like Michael Eisner and the ones who had followed at Paramount look at the receipts from "Star Wars" and said to themselves, "What product do we have in our libraries which can replicate that?" Despite thinking Beyond was a misuse of a great title and a terrible movie to boot, I welcomed those movies because it injected some life to the franchise but unfortunately didn't know what to do to keep new audiences (NOT STAR TREK FANS) interested. I thought the problems the movies had were when they were desperately trying to cater to fans, the same fans who hammered them when they delivered the things they claim to want but... didn't want it the way the studio developed it.

I think this is the biggest struggle for studios. They are looking at the receipts, they are looking at trends, and what fans claim they really like as popular. But, then they get bitten back for trying to do those things.

It's no secret Paramount started the Star Trek movie opus hoping endlessly for lightning in a bottle and when TNG movies ran out of gas, they hired Star Wars enthusiasts to try to bring the gift of fire like Prometheus. As much as I enjoyed the 2 JJTrek movies, there's more to Star Trek than chasing trends like the crappy "Beyond" with their Fast and the Furious tone. I would be pleased if Viacom would hire a person who has a love and appreciation for Star Trek than the Star Wars lover who keeps failing to mold something that is not and could never be.

Beyond was one of the better Trek films in my opinion. I've only seen one Fast and Furious so I don't know if they were channeling that, but even if they were they had the Trek "spirit" intact (Lin's a big Trekkie since childhood, and I believe Pegg's work on the script helped it feel like Trek).

As for 2009 and Into Darkness being Star Wars films, they failed even at that in my opinion. They made Kirk so unlikable, which in itself was a big misstep (Luke was fine, and Anakin had issues but even he had reasons for them). Ironically, Discovery did a better job of being Star Wars than the first 2 Kelvin films did.

In answer to the OP, 'absolutely'. The Kelvinverse is a lot of fun and I'd hate Beyond to be a dead end. There's still years of potential in the concept and so many stories to tell.

I could've watched 'Kelvin' movies for years but I think the momentum has been lost, sadly. The alleged falling back on a time travel story smacks of desperation and an empty well of inspiration. It would be great to see Thor back too but, again, it strikes me as an attempt to get some of those Avengers fans to buy tickets rather than necessary to any worthwhile story, The Voyage Home didn't need Eddie Murphy in the end and First Contact managed just fine without Tom Hanks, in my opinion.

Sure! The Kelvin films are all three in my top 5 favorite Trek movies. I'd love to see them continue.

I was watching ST09 the other night, and I just marvel at how well the cast work together. To me, they're the people they claim to be, even though the timeline is clearly altered, and their experiences have changed. Also, Pegg just kills me.
