Do you vary your TV viewing distance depending on what you’re watching

Do you ever sit closer to the TV when watching letterboxed movies, so that the picture doesn’t look small?

Do you ever sit further away from the TV when watching standard definition movies, so that the picture quality looks better?

Do you sit closer to the TV when watching your favourite movies and TV shows?

Or do you always watch TV at the same distance?

Moving the couch back and forth would be a pain in the ass.

Re: Do you vary your TV viewing distance depending on what you’re watc

I normally watch TV in bed so the TV stays fixed.

Re: Do you vary your TV viewing distance depending on what you’re watc

I've got a 50" plasma tv, so really no concerns about small images most of the time, and no concerns about image quality in general.

Re: Do you vary your TV viewing distance depending on what you’re watc

No. I can't even move my couch anyway. Basement's too small.

Re: Do you vary your TV viewing distance depending on what you’re watc

No movement, but I do vary my watching vis a vis lights on or lights off, depending on what is on...

Re: Do you vary your TV viewing distance depending on what you’re watc

Same distance for all shows. I guess the only variation is that I put the laptop away when The Walking Dead is on, pretty much everything else only gets half my attention.

I don't typically move furniture around in order to watch TV.

Basically this, my TV is set just fine to watch anything, so "moving around" seems pointless.

^This. I sit on the couch, which is about 5 feet from the TV. I stay put.

No idea why, but I watch Castle and The Amazing Race stretched out on the floor in front of the TV. Everything else I watch from either the couch, or the comfy chair [montypython] The Comfy Chair! [/montypython]

If I watch tv in my bedroom I usually lay in bed while watching tv. But sometimes that makes me nod off so I move to the hard chair in front of my computer and that's about half way between the bed and tv. Other than that I stay put since usually I watch tv in the front room and that seat is just right for tv viewing.

Re: Do you vary your TV viewing distance depending on what you’re watc

I live by myself, so my living room is personalized for my ideal viewing. The room isn't really that big, so even small things are clearly visible on my medium sized TV. I always watch while sitting on the couch, though I will move back and forth across the couch as the program progresses. I lean on one armrest, then the other, then lay down, then sit up, etc.

Rocking back and forth when we watch porn.

Re: Do you vary your TV viewing distance depending on what you’re watc

No, but for some reason, I've taken to watching Game of Thrones at night with the lights off. It's pretty much the only show for which I do this.

Exactly this.

The same distance. I'm usually on the couch with one or more animals on top of me. Makes moving around tricky. :)

The same distance, the couch doesn't move(except for cleaning under it) nor does the TV.

and I've never noticed the picture is smaller when watching Widescreen films (even in the days when I had a 4x3 TV)

Me too. Only two or three shows I watch don't also share attention with the laptop.
