With her having felt like an outsider in SNW, I could see the show doing some story where an encounter with someone makes her feel less alone. For me ideally she would be the one to pursue whatever kind of fling it is, would be stronger that way, that she has to find strength and value in herself. Maybe it wouldn't work out in the end and she'd find that she has friends aboard who care about her a lot.

I think next season we should see a change in the character. Let her wear a skirt like the show or change her hair to something more relaxed or have her sing more and give her a one night stand. Those are just some ideas. Don't have to use them but the point though is to start showing some visual clues that she has become more assured in her job and her life.
She is no longer the young cadet or new ensign. She has had two years of experience and has done well so she is now in a place in her life were she is starting to loosen up and have more fun. Maybe she teases characters more and jokes. She is filled with confidence and really enjoying life like never before and it shows in how she dresses and carries herself like in things like posture.
