Do you think the River Song story will ever be resolved?

Joe Washington

In Library of the Dead, the Doctor met a woman named River Song who seem to have known him or rather his future self for years. There were hints that not only was River one of his companions, they were more than just friends during their time together. Do you think there ever will be a chance of us seeing that future unfold even though the show is being run by someone else? Do you think we may see that in this new season of Doctor Who since the woman who played River Song will be playing appearances in future episodes of the season?

There have been behind the scenes and location photos taken of Alex Kingston with Matt Smith and the TARDIS, so yes, the character is comin' back & there will be, hopefully, some resolution to her story with the Doctor.

I'm sure there's no way to do this because of practical television reasons, but I think it would be sweet if the time River meets the Doctor is the last time he sees her, just like he met her the last time she'd see him. Either because it's his fatal death, or he's just run out of space in his copy of the diary and realizes they've hit all the points they're going to hit. But that way, it makes it a sort of unending cycle, so even though they can never be together, in a way, they're always together.

There's going to be several stories with her, and it's all but become a part of the Doctor's mythos forever more. She'll be showing up from time to time in every incarnation of the Doctor henceforth. Mark my words. :)

I think it'll be resolved within the next 2 or 3 years, because I don't think Alex Kingston is young enough to keep coming back as a younger version of her character for many more years down the line.

Afterwards, perhaps the Doctor can then return to the Library and pay her uploaded essence a visit.

It would be fascinating to see them have a real conversation once they've both finally caught up to each other. Then they'll each know the full story and get all each other's in-jokes and references. No more spoilers to worry about.

He clearly won't tell her how she dies, though. Unless River is a really good actress and went to the library knowing the outcome but playing along for the sake of spoilers, of course. But I doubt it.

Something just occured to me. What if River Song is a future version of Amy Pond? She takes on a different name somewhere down the line for some reason. When Amy meets the woman who played River Song in future episodes, she's actually meeting her future self.

No. Don't go down that road.

See Guy Gardiner's thread. Poor chap thought that, and it seems he's gone mad. Mad, I tell you.

I think it will be resoved, but not as in depth as we all hope. Spoilers, Darling. ;)

Moffat will keep us in the dark for as long as possible, and then just when we think he will explain everything, the credits roll and nothing.

Its the best audience participation method of old. Leave us hanging and let our minds do the rest. :techman:

Unless Amy's relatively straight hair suddenly goes curly I doubt that will happen.

However, if it's revealed that she is a Timelord and regenerates into River ..... no ..... I thinks it's more plausible that her hair goes curly due to some wibbly wobbly timey whimey that goes ding when there's stuff.

Didn't some people think that Donna would regenerate into Amy Pond?

Heck, while we're going for the Super Crazy Theory route, maybe River Song is a future regeneration of Romana...or the Rani...or the Meddling Monk...or the Doctor him/herself???

Maybe River is Susan's mother. As for who River is...well The Master finally got his ultimate revenge of the Doctor
