I consider it well done, although I don't count myself an authority, and it is an ongoing thing - one of the most important relationships in the show's second season, whose nature goes beyond the romantic to the nature of leadership between these two characters. That does jog my memory that I'd heard the show teased with a little bit of girl/girl bisexuality. Is it well done and a prominent on going thing?
But when Enterprise aired its last episode, the idea of any genre series having its lead character in such a relationship was still unthinkable. My point is more that a lot has changed; not that there isn't still a way to go.It's telling that it is a bisexual female getting exposure, the safest least controversial kind of LGBT character they could do.
And from that, you assume he is straight, rather than pan or bi? I mean, you might be right - but from some of Riker's flirty behavior, even occasionally with male characters, I always figured he was bi with a strong preference for women. We were "explicitly" informed that Riker was straight when we were told in a voice over (Deanna's thoughts) that he had a past relationship with another character who was female.
I think that might be the ONLY way Nyssa al Ghul qualifies as "least threatening".Other minor gay characters have shown up in Arrow. The most prominent LGBT character, not surprisingly, is a hot bisexual female, the least threatening LGBT character possible.
But is Curtis prominent? He mentions an off screen husband every now and then, but he feels like a pretty minor character so far.
I really think they have to at this point.
I'm not sure that needed a spoiler tag, but better safe than sorry.![]()
As far as Curtis goes, there are rumours of a Teen Titans series so he could feature prominently in that. He's not listed for Legends though.
The latest news is that the Titans series is now not happening. I'm pretty sad about that.
I actually disagree with that! Every character should be interesting and every arc should be meaningful in some way.I don't think a gay trek character should be done just to tick the box - they should be made interesting and the arc meaningful

Sexuality should be incidental and a non-issue in the Star Trek universe so making a character gay to tick a box could be the better approach for it. Create a cast of interesting characters first and then throw darts or flip coins to decide gender, sexuality etc.
I don't want a character who is interesting because he's gay, I want a character who is interesting and just happens to be gay.

That's a great answer, but outside of all the evil bisexual women in the Mirror Universe, and maybe Jadzia Dax and Lenora Kahn, what other gay characters have I missed? It's more accurate to say that you haven't noticed all the gay characters that have been present during the last 550 hours of Star Trek.
