Do you still enjoy the 90's X-Men cartoon?

To be fair, Batman TAS is easily one of the top three children's cartoons of all time. It's certainly the best kids cartoon comic book tv show ever.

I especially couldn't stand Jean Grey or Xavier's voices.

... I don't like Xavier's voice in the cartoon quite as much as Patrick Stewart's, but I still think it fits the character.

I agree, changing what I said earlier a bit, Stewart is my definitive Charles, but the cartoon versions of Wolverine, Nightcrawler, the majority of the baddies (Ian McKellen as a close second), and definitely Beast and Gambit are my definitive character voices.

Oddly, the Iceman from the Marvel vs Capcom series is my definitive Iceman voice.

^LELLANDRA!!!! AAAARRRRHHH! ...

I can totally hear it. :techman:

Yeah, Wolverine was a relief especially since they gave him an Australian accent in previous animated attempts like the 80's pilot (Which inspired the arcade game strangely enough) and I think some episodes of Spider-Man and his Amazing friends.

Of course we do have an Australian playing Wolverine now-full circle :)

There was an amusing story I read about that, as Wolverine's Australian accent is probably the single most common nitpick about Pryde of the X-Men. The voice director who worked on the pilot said that it was influenced by the presence of film series like Mad Max and Crocodile Dundee, and that he'd heard at the time that it was intended for the comics to tie into Wolverine being an Australian who lived primarily in Canada, but those details never developed in writing.

^For me, Wolverine and Beast as well.
And the X-Men in general. First Class is a great movie, but I remember other people saying this as well, that without that core of Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Storm etc, it just doesn't feel like the X-Men. And I think that comes from growing up with that show.

I think that is exactly my problem with FC. To me, Cyclops, Jeans, Wolverine, Storm, Beast, and Rogue ARE the X-Men. I don't mind the other characters, but the movies just feel incomplete without those characters present (and I think Bryan Singer gets that, too, otherwise DOFP wouldn't have ended the way it did).

Then you'll be happy for the next seeing as it sounds like at least Cyclops, Jeans, and Storm will be appearing with Beast and Xavier.

I just hope Apocalypse is hamy enough in it.

I am a huge fan of the Fox Kids X-Men cartoon series. I used to watch it all the time on Netflix and really hope they bring it back! Awesome memories and awesome times!!!

I loved the show when I was a kid, but I tried watching it recently, and it just doesn't hold up, especially when you compare it to BatsTAS which aired around the same time.

I've never been a big comic book fan and know nothing about them outside of what I've read on wikis. One thing I've always wondered, did Rouge ever fly? That always seemed kind of silly to me.

In the comics, Rogue starts as a villain and permanently absorbs the powers and memories of Avenger Carol Danvers- Mrs. Marvel (Who is now the current Captain Marvel), including flight. This leads to her sort of going nuts and she seeks the help of the X-men to sort things out, and eventually grows into a major member of the team. Although the Carol Danvers/Mrs. Marvel persona eventually leaves her, she still retains her powers of flight/super strength etc.

These powers are not present in the movie version at all.

Not sure how the animated series explained this though.

That's how Rogue's back story was handled on the series too.

I remember absolutely loving that show when it was on, but I tried to watch an episode on youtube a few weeks ago and the voices were so over the top I couldn't stand it. Tastes change over time, I guess.

I enjoyed this series a lot and it was my introduction to X-Men. This and the 90s Spider-man cartoon were very entertaining shows and i'm sure they must have had some influences on the live action movies.

^George Buza, the voice of beast in the cartoon was in the first X-Men film. He's the heavy set dude Wolverine wakes when he pops his claws for the first time.

Didn't know that. Cool.
I read also they wanted the voice actor of Magneto, David Hemblen, to play the same character in the movie.

He's the trucker that drops Rogue there - he says something to her and you can definitely hear it's Beast.

I liked David Kaye from X-Men Evolution better as Xavier, really. He sounded like a younger Patrick Stewart.

And I liked EVO Apocalypse a lot more than TAS Apocalypse, especially since he lived up to his name a lot more.

It was Jon Colicos, but he was too over-the-top for my liking. I liked how EVO Apocalypse only talked once in the entire series, in the last episode. The rest of the time he had lackeys to talk for him (Mesmero).

But he delivered lines like :

"You presume to attempt to destroy me? You shall PAY for your hubris. RIGHT NNOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!"

Hilarious.

X-men was almost Shakespearean in a way. I actually enjoyed it. And still do. You can tell the writers were well read.

And it also had hilarious lines like this:

Master Mold - You will remove senator kelly's brain and replace it with a computer
senator kelly - What!?... you can't do that I'm a united states senator!

Master Mold - My sentinels are bringing me leaders from all over the world. In time all of their brains will be replaced.... It will be a vast improvement
