Australia doesn't have any dry 'counties'.

However there are some aboriginal communities that have elected not to allow alcohol to be brought into their settlements.

In Alaska many native villages also ban the sale and possession of alcohol. Evidently it has created a huge black market where people attempt to smuggle it in and then sell it at outrageous prices. Others just make their own moonshine.

I suppose I could understand a county or state that doesn't allow the sale of alcohol on Sunday, I cannot understand the idea behind a "dry" county, or anywhere for that matter.

Allowing the consumption of alcohol was clearly intended by the Founding Fathers, for it was Benjamin Franklin who said, "Beer. Proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

You've obviously never been to the Bible-belt. I'm in Oklahoma, where there are 77 counties, half of which are dry.

Can't say I've ever had, nor wanted the pleasure.

I doubt there are any completely dry counties in Georgia (in fact, I'd be surprised if you'd find many dry counties at all in the lower 48 outside of maybe Utah)....but you cannot buy alcohol on Sundays anywhere in this state. Liquor stores are closed and beer/wine aisles of supermarkets dark from midnight Saturday night to midnight Sunday night.

This is sort of true.

Many native villages in Alaska are dry for the SALE of alcohol...but not to the use of it. And since the villages are pretty remote, a lot of people go into Anchorage or Fairbanks on a regular basis to buy everything from grocery items (in a village of 300 people, the village store doesn't exactly have a huge selection) to clothing items....to booze.

I have flown on many a commuter plane out into the bush...and half the baggage in the baggage claim is booze.

They transport fish (summer) and animal skins (winter) on the way into town (either for sale or to give to family/friends)....and booze on the way back to the village.

I suppose the sale of some of this booze might be something of a cottage industry...but since most people DO go into town at least a few times a year, it can't be THAT outrageously expensive in the village.

I understand why some of the villages are dry - the native population of the state of Alaska seems to be particularly susceptible to alcoholism. But it's not really a situation where booze is totally impossible to get.

You're too late to the party. Start from Page 1 of this thread and you'll see there are many areas in the Lower 48 that have dry counties

What the hell is wrong with you? Were you raised by dingos in the Outback or something?

What does that have to do with what he said, and why do you think it was appropriate for this topic? If it was some kind of connection to Islam banning the drinking of alcohol, how about you add a bit of commentary instead of an almost entirely unrelated image?
