Do you live in/near a dry county?

^^ Looks like you found some. :rommie:

The poll ID number matched an old Briefing Room poll from 2005. The only people who will able to vote in this are mods and admins. Best bet is to start a new thread and re-do the poll.
I wonder what would happen if the old Poll were deleted.

This topic brings to mind a couple of questions.

1. I can understand the thinking behind a dry county, but do they fare any better than wet counties in areas like crime or drunk driving?

2. What would it take for a dry county to change the law and allow alcohol sales?

Not dry, but I am having a hell of a time finding a place that sells whiskey in VA. I miss my BevMo in CA.

I don't live near a dry county now, but I was surrounded by them during my time at the University of Kentucky. My wife also grew up in a dry county in Kentucky. Only 25 percent of Kentucky's 120 counties are completely wet, and 40 percent are completely dry. The rest are somewhere in between. In some, it's even illegal to bring alcoholic beverages into the county, though this is treated more like a blue law, and only applied if someone is caught bringing in large quantities of liquor.

[For what it's worth, the county in which they make Jack Daniels whiskey, Moore County, Tennessee, is a dry county.]

My entire country is submerged by a sea of dark, smooth, tasty red wine. :D

Being German, the concept of 'dry counties' is very alien to me. All our festivities revolve around drinking alcohol (well, are an excuse to get completely wasted).

England is about as wet as it gets (and not just because it rains all the time), with chavs drinking cheap cider on every other street corner.

Our European identity

I'm not going to answer the poll, I will just let you guess.

I definitely do not live in a dry county! You can get liquor from any supermarket. I think there might be some around here somewhere, but I'm not sure. I don't think Roswell has any bars, but that's all that I'm aware of!
