I like it for the most part and I know it will grow on me as the Excelsior did.

I'm glad they didn't just use the TV ship with very tiny mod.
That would have been safe & lazy. We've got 79 episodes with the original, re-mastered and not re-mastered and the movie version & the CGI version from Trials & Tribulations animated version etc., so what if we have 3 movies with a slightly different version.

The story will make or break it.

What's immature about it exactly?

Jet engines in space?...

Jet engines without air? Doesn't seem likely.
Originally before the Okudas got to explaining Warp Theory in TNG'S Technical manual Roddenberry sold the warp premise likening it to a jet engine.

Also In a mirror Darkly the CG looked like CG. Don't delude yourself and My point stands even if you re-edited. And get off your high horse, you're not a mod.

TAS proved the original design worked well when used in cartoons as well. ;)

Fixed for accuracy. Cartoons have come a long way since 1970.

Edited back. Please do not alter other members posts. The design worked well in 2005 when shown in full CGI detail in "In A Mirror Darkly" as well, going to try and spin a 'different era' BS remark on that one too?

On a TV. Not when blown up on my very modest (compared to the screens at the local cinema) 64 inch screen with my HD front projector. Now, on a 30 FOOT+ screen, it would not be at all impressive. Will this new one be? Perhaps not--but it does have ONE head start over your example--it is DESIGNED for such a big screen.

I voted "Yes" primarily because I think it accomplishes what someone upthread remarked--to the general public, it practically SCREAMS "that Star Trek ship" or "The Enterprise". And that is ALL it needs to do. If there had been any other poll options, I would have voted, "I like it a bit, but I'm not ecstatic" or some variation thereof. Of course, that's how I feel about all the versions of the Enterprise I've seen (up to the E-E). I've never found the design aesthetic of Star Trek ships all that appealing, nor has it represented the essence of what I DO find appealing about Trek. (I've actually found the Klingon Bird of Prey design most appealing--but that's neither here nor there).

Clearly everyone has the right to like (or not) the new ship (with varying degrees of intensity)--but if the criterion was to make something the general public would identify as "that Star Trek ship"--mission accomplished.

Quonos, I do remember the interview you speak of, where Gene tried to explain the nacelles in such a way, that the front of the warp engine sucked space time into it, and accelerated it out the back, and the globes at the rear portion of the nacelles rebuilt space time back into its normal state.

No, I'm not all that fond of the new design. It's not sleek or graceful, it looks like the Enterprise with cancer.

Get a grip people!

Thats just rude. Must we keep seeing that thing?

Yes! I'm hoping reality hits you smack between the eyes.

They really screwed up. Why, just look at the registry! It's backwards! I refuse to go see this film. Good-bye to all of you as I refuse to let them rape my childhood anymore.

I vote yes. Why not? She's real purdy.

As Kirk would say, "Young minds, new ideas. Be tolerant."

Guys be tolerant, it does look like the enterprise and it has a lot LESS viewports as one would expect which I find very GOOD and somewhat realer than the windowfest tng

No, it does NOT look like the Enterprise

Yeah. You're right. It looks nothing like the Enterprise. Didn't even recognize it

it looks like an uninformed attempt at doing a Star Trek ship.

Man, it's a fictional ship. You don't have to be informed. It is what the creators say it is, whether you like it or not. If you don't like it, fine. But don't get all Chicken Little over it.

THIS is the Enterprise...

Sure is. So is the new one.

When I die...have this image seared into the head of my tombstone.

BEAUTY. Sheer, simple beauty. The STAR TREK of my youth and fondest memories.

it looks better than the original enterprise, but not as good as the refit, IMO.
actually, I like it except for the nacelles; they seem a bit too big.
