Do you have any hobbies?

I've mentioned a couple times that I've added bike riding to my hobbies, which also include reading, writing, and playing video games.
Anybody else around here got any fun hobbies?

reading, drawing, about every kind of needlework there is, gardening, nature watching, and fussing at the squirrels on my deck.

Thinking of a film and then reading about the production of it on Wikipedia. Listening to music and making my own music although not been able to do that for a long time. Tinkering with video production software. Fixing things because I like the process of working out if it can be fixed and if I can I fix it. It started with fixing old audio and VHS tapes but not much demand for that anymore. One day I was visiting the folks and my dad was just about to go out to buy a new strimmer because the one they had was rattling constantly. I opened the outer casing and a small bolt fell out that had worked loose and was the cause of the rattling. Tightened it back in place and saved my dad the cost of a replacement so he was very happy.

You know how, in big cities which have extensive mass transit systems, you use special cards to pay for your rides? Like the CharlieCard (Boston), Presto card (Toronto), MetroCard (NYC), OPUS card (Montréal), etc.? I collect those. In fact pretty much any kind of ticket you use to pay for a subway, bus or streetcar ride, I collect. I have a binder with a few hundred of them in it.

Wow, that's a pretty unique collection. Have you actually traveled on all of those systems, or do you just get the cards off the internet?

Most of them are ones I've actually used. Although I'll take any kind of card or ticket, even if I haven't been there. Hell, if I see somebody about to throw one away, I'll ask if I can have it. :D (that happened to me in Montréal once)

If I can't actually visit a city, I'll ask friends or family to send me a card they don't need any more. For instance I have been trying to get my sister (who used to live in London) to send me an old Oyster card but she keeps forgetting. :sigh:

OK.

I haven't played in a while but I'm not saying I never will. I've been playing guitar occasionally for little bit over 20 years, less these days but at least I still know how to play. I'm not the best but probably not the worst either. Not a master but not a beginner either.

This is a Jackson Kelly I've had since 1999 if memory serves. Originally it was black with grey hardware. I gave it some ”metal” look after I wanted something new. First black spray paint to the hardware.... then a sunny day in our backyard, syringe and red paint, that's what happened, ”BloodyKelly”.

Another guitar I currently have, a Dean Z.

There was a time when I had around 10 guitars at the same time. For someone who plays as little as I do it was just stupid but you know how collecting can get.... It was fun. =) It would be fun to have a room full of guitars but where would I put them.

I have mad respect for anyone who can play the guitar (or any other stringed instrument). It doesn't look like anything I could possibly figure out in my current lifetime.

I might be able to learn bass, sometime before the heat death of the universe. But that's only because bass players don't have to play chords.

That said, I'd love to learn how to play the Chapman Stick...

At first when you look at someone playing guitar well, it does look like "whoa, too hard".
But, after you practice a bit and like what you're doing, it isn't that hard. =)

I forgot about another hobby I have, for a while now I've been collecting Quidd digital trading cards and stickers. They're free, so I've gotten hundreds of them, without spending a single dollar. They have added to option to spend real money, but I refuse to, and if they ever get ride of the option to use their free app specific currency, I'm going to stop.

I fiddle musically with keyboard instruments. I'll also occasionally dabble with modeling clay. It's really good hand therapy. I like motorcycle riding too

I go for long walks, hikes, enjoy going to check out the free libraries we have 5 now, I knit (not lately), I read, watch movies (I collect movies), and play with my cat. I like to make candy and bake cookies. That is all I can think of at the moment.
