Almost made it. Killed in the Burn. Should have had a career change.;)

All dead. The Talosians were on their way out when Pike was initially caged. They were all doomed. And they knew it. The Cerritos had to clean out the cages...;)

Yes but they can all be resurrected in an instant on the holodeck! Just wait for the kids in the Starfleet Academy series meet random people from the current era of Trek on a writer's whim.

I didn't feel bad knowing Eddard Stark's fate, so no. Kinda felt bad for the folks in the audience who didn't though.

yes kind of. He's a really good character and I'm really starting to hate the fact that the character will be killed. I don't really want him to be killed and it kind of sucks knowing he will be.

I mean, technically all the characters will die at some point since with the possible exception of Pelia, none of them are immortal.

And then died herself, since the Prize they're all fighting for is mortality.

    In the back.

    Greedo/Han shot first.

    In the whatevers.

A characters lifetime is more interesting than their endpoint. I just mean, I don’t feel bad when I watch SNW Kirk because I know that Shatner Kirk gets buried by Picard.

As someone said, Sam’s fate being sealed essentially makes him invulnerable, along with Chapel, Spock, Scotty, Uhura, M’Benga, Kirk and Pike.

Which characters actually could die that are presently on SNW? Pelia… Ortegas… Una…

But no, regardless, I don’t feel bad about Sam dying. He didn’t really die, because he was never alive anyway.

Sam Kirk seems to exist solely to be a jerk to Spock and to make Kirk look good by playing the sibling rivalry victim. There’s no other real reason why that character is on the Enterprise. He is more of a plot device than a character.

I think he was added just to have Kirk have a excuse to show up but I also think the actor has done a great job and has made him more popular than maybe even the writers expected.

And no Sherman T. Potter to take his place, either. I can't watch early MASH without some sadness.

I find him interesting in his own right. A different type of Starfleet officer. A bit more relaxed and less formal. (But not in an Ortegas sort of way  ) Which might explain why he left. Not the best fit. He existed through most of season one without a Jim in sight. The sibling rivalry thing came up once, IIRC. It provided some background for both characters. Though "rivalry" seems a mischaracterization. Sam is on his own path, his frustration comes from his father not recognizing that.
Was he a "jerk" to Spock? Maybe in Children of the Comet? I don't recall.

I don't recall him being a jerk to Spock in that episode but he did sing and dance with Chapel right in front of his breaking hearts eyes. I'm sure when Spock sees him dead in TOS he likely hiding his true feelings while deep inside he is like 'Who is the X now asshole. I can't ever mind meld with Jim though. He must never know I had this thought."

Sam lashed out at Spock during the Peregrine incident, when the Gorn were actively threatening them. It was his fear and panic, though, and the incident seemed brushed off afterwards.

Unless Spock was referring to that when he had to be restrained in the meeting over him needing to clean up after himself.

Back on the topic, it’s a double-edged sword, really, because sure, now there’s more of a sense of tragedy in Sam’s death... But that’s also because now he’s actually a character who has a personality, a reason for us to care about his fate. The reason he was originally played by Shatner wearing a mustache was because he was only appearing as a corpse, he didn’t really matter. Now he actually is someone who we as an audience can feel the tragedy of his death because we have an idea of who he was and his relationship with Jim.

Never noticed the typo in the title. Fixed the spelling of "Kirk's".

Definitely thought it was dumb having Kirk's brother on the Enterprise. And still feel that way to an extent.

But I quite enjoy the actor they got for Sam Kirk. I'm not so fond of the moustache, but he's really nice eye candy and I enjoyed his dancing in Chapel's song.

I hope they explore his character more, like they explored the recurring characters on DS9.
